Leslie: Everybody, stop talking until Justin gets here. Don't use up your stories.

Leslie meets with the recreation center teachers to inform them that five of the teachers, of which have yet to be determined, will have to lose their jobs due to budget cuts. While her work life is stressful, her personal life has been going very well, as Leslie has been dating Justin for a while. Leslie promises that the next time he's in Pawnee, she will have a great date planned. She asks Ann for some ideas. Ann suggests having him for dinner, and Leslie decides on a dinner party. Leslie invites several of her co-workers (except Jerry) to the dinner party and hires Andy to be the waiter.

Ann arrives at Leslie's house to help prepare and is shocked to find it full of stacks of boxes, papers, and garbage, as Leslie is a hoarder. When they find themselves unable to sort through it, Leslie calls Maria Portlesman, who teaches cleaning and organizing courses at the recreation center. Maria declines payment and hints she would prefer preferential treatment when Leslie cuts the classes, despite Leslie's assurance this will not happen. When Leslie has no idea what to cook, she asks another rec center teacher who teaches a cooking class for help. That teacher accepts in the hope that Leslie will let her keep teaching.

When Leslie's guests arrive, she tries to keep them from saying anything interesting until Justin shows up. Ron arrives, bringing Wendy along as his date, much to Tom's anger. During their dinner, Ron impresses Wendy by eating a hot red pepper, which makes Tom attempt to eat a bigger one. It sends him running to the bathroom in pain immediately. When Justin starts yawning, a worried Leslie calls in other rec center teachers to make the party more interesting, including a belly-dancer, a fencer, a cartoonist, and an origami teacher.

Meanwhile, Andy complains about Justin to April, who proposes putting chewed up gum in Justin's coat pockets. However, when she backs out of it because she finds Justin to be "kinda cool", Andy declares she's betrayed him.

The rec center accounting teacher shows up, thinking that Leslie is evaluating rec center teachers. He puts on a boring show, and Leslie is devastated when she sees that Justin has fallen asleep. Ron, however, is angered and tells Leslie to be in his office in the morning.

The next morning, Leslie faces a disciplinary hearing to evaluate whether she abused her power. When Justin testifies, he states that he had an amazing time at the party; he only fell asleep due to being so tired from working on a difficult case all day. The disciplinary committee won't take any further action because Leslie asked for the hearing herself and donated money to the rec center so no teachers would have to quit. She tells Ann she did this just so she could have her boyfriend testify under oath that her party was awesome.

Later, April reveals to Andy that she put gum in Justin's coat pockets, and he declares himself "unbetrayed". Justin encourages Tom to ask Wendy out.

Tropes

  • Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: Nicely subverted, in that he never does it intentionally or maliciously, but no one can say anything to Justin without him relating a similar story about his globetrotting lifestyle. For instance, when Mark mentions he occasionally swims at the local YMCA, Justin will talk about how he once swam with a whale shark off the coast of South Africa.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Tom is still not quite over Wendy, and is especially not happy with the fact that Ron is romantically interested in her.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Tom can't handle the spicy pepper he ate in an attempt to one-up Ron and impress Wendy.
  • Macho Masochism: Tom tries to eat a hot pepper to look masculine to impress Wendy. He can't handle it at all.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Andy is the only one who laughs at the accounting teacher's joke:
Barney: When it comes to choosing accounting software, there's no accounting for taste.
    Andy: (Laughs loudly)
  • That Came Out Wrong: One of the rec center workers is a man running a support group for people with terminal illnesses. When Leslie says "hopefully your attendance is good", she quickly backpedals.
  • Trash of the Titans: Leslie's home is overflowing with stacks of boxes, old newspapers, and garbage. She and Ann are forced to call in a woman who runs an organization class for help.
  • Two Decades Behind: According to Tom, Pawnee has just discovered Nirvana.
