Go To

Airdate: February 23, 2015

Welcome to Chen's Island and the Tournament of Elements, where the various Elemental Masters will be pitted against each other in one-on-one competitions. Remember, only one can remain!

This episode provides examples of:

  • Arc Words: Chen's catchphrase: "Only one can remain!"
  • Battle Strip: When Jay and Bolobo are fighting over a Jadeblade, Jay takes off his towel to slap Bolobo in his rear and take the Jade Blade from him.
  • Costume Evolution: The Ninja receive their Tournament robes in this episode.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The episode reveals the initial brackets for the tournament, three of which are changed up due to events in this episode and the next:
    • Kai versus Ash
    • Skylor versus Jacob
    • Griffin Turner versus Gravis
    • Jay versus Mr. Pale
    • Neuro versus Bolobo
    • Cole versus Shade
    • Karlof versus Tox
    • Lloyd versus Chamille
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Kai says this word for word after Garmadon calls him out on unscrewing Karloff's gauntlet to get the last Jadeblade. When he (feeling guilty) talks with Skylor about it, she insists that he had to as well.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Considering the Ninja are only in the tournament to find Zane, not to win, Kai wasn't exactly wrong to unscrew Karlof's gauntlet. Letting Karlof win would only hinder the Ninja's plans.
  • Mundane Utility: Jay's room was made so his powers could operate any electronic in it.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Kai initially doesn't regret getting Karlof eliminated through underhanded means, but feels guilty when he sees Karlof dropped through a trapdoor.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Ninja when they see Karlof's elemental powers get stolen. They also have one when realizing that Chen used Ice during the ceremony, meaning he's already taken Zane's powers.
  • Shout-Out: There can only be one!
  • Title Drop: Villainous catchphrase and Arc Words.
  • Wham Shot: Skylor producing fire, seemingly implying that she and Kai are distantly related.
