High Tide

Torres and Bishop go undercover to foil a drug ring in a marina, the former getting in hot water with Vance for his maverick personality when it comes to undercover assignments.

Tropes:

  • Becoming the Mask: Bishop really gets into her undercover roles.
Torres: You shouldn't have slapped his hand away...
Bishop: I don't give out free samples! I got three kids to feed and a sick nana in Boca! [off his look] What? You told me to have a backstory, that's my backstory.
Torres: No, that's actually... that's actually pretty good.
    Bishop: Thank you.
    • Later, even Torres looks freaked out when she calmly suggests executing the witness and dumping her body off the base.
  • Dirty Harriet: Bishop has to go undercover as an escort.
  • The Dog Was The Master Mind: The leader of the drug ring turns out to be Donny, the low-ranking mook doing fetch-and-carry work in the dive shop. This gives Torres a nasty surprise when he takes pity on Donny, reveals his identity and encourages him to run before NCIS closes in.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Torres helps bring down a drug ring and gets annoyed at having to do grunt work afterwards.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The leader of the drug ring holds Torres at gunpoint while the latter is driving. Since he didn't fasten his seat belt, he goes flying when Torres deliberately plows the car into an immovable obstacle.
  • If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten!: As part of the "interview", the drug dealer who runs the bait-and-tackle shop orders Bishop to shoot the buyer who killed one of his workers as proof she has what it takes to deal with "messy work". Fortunately, before it can happen, Torres secretely sets off the fire alarm (claiming that it was a kid that was messing around) and convinces the owner not have Bishop kill her there, because it'll look bad to the on-the-way fire department if they find a dead body. The leader concedes this, and allows Bishop to kill the buyer in an isolated location if she sends photos as evidence. This gives Bishop the opportunity to sneak the buyer back to the Navy Yard and have Abby fake the photos so she can earn his trust.
  • Indy Ploy: Torres' MO when it comes to undercover work. It doesn't fly with Vance.
  • Ramming Always Works: Especially when the guy holding Torres at gunpoint isn't wearing a seatbelt.
  • Sexiness Score: Bishop has to go undercover as a Dirty Harriet and is rated a "hard ten" by the perps for her looks.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Bishop doesn't look too bad as an escort, especially in the eyes of the perps we meet this episode, as each of them rate her a solid 10 for looks.
  • Shutting Up Now: Denise Mancuso, the schoolteacher brought in for questioning, quickly confesses to two minor crimes. On being told that neither has to do with why she's there, she elects to "stop talking" and wait for Gibbs and McGee to ask the questions.
