Season 7, Episode 4

When the remains of a marine are washed up, Ziva's account of Mossad's mission to take out Saleem Ulman is called into question.

  • Alas, Poor Yorick: Tony holds one of the skulls from the Damocles in a similar fashion.
  • A-Team Firing: The team exploits this to exonerate Ziva. Malachi has a broken clavicle from the shootout. Ducky and Abby deduce that from the lack of organic tissue on the bullets, the shooter missed several times before killing Cryer— something unlikely of Ziva. The final flashback on the Damocles subsequently confirms it was Malachi.
  • Captain Obvious: A more literal example than most, as it's the captain of the Damocles when he meets Ziva.
    Captain: You are a woman.
    Ziva: You're a genius.
  • Fake-Out Make-Out: When one of the sailors catches Daniel Cryer snooping around the Damocles, Ziva says that she sent him to find them some privacy, and then smooches him to demonstrate why.
  • Get Out!: Gibbs yells at Malachi to get out of NCIS, and to tell Eli David that Ziva's off-limits.
  • Good Cop/Bad Copnote : Vance is direct and borderline ruthless in his questioning of Ziva and Malachi—and he's the good cop. Gibbs is, well, Gibbs.
  • Gotta Kill Them All: Everyone on the Damocles is killed, except for Malachi and Ziva.
  • New Meat: At the end of the episode, Ziva's application as an NCIS agent is finally approved.
    Gibbs: Get to work, Probie.
  • Riddle for the Ages: What does Gibbs whisper into Ziva's ear at the end?
  • Right Behind Me: When Ziva criticizes Tony's computer skills, she compares him to Gibbs—and spins around to see if Gibbs popped up. Subverted, as he's in MTAC with Vance.
  • Suicide Mission: The mission in Somalia became this after the sinking of the Damocles. Malachi told Ziva that they should retreat, but Ziva wanted to continue on, believing that the mission was too important, and not caring anymore whether she lived or died.
