Film watched: Phase IV
The Segments:
Prologue- The Mads need $40,000 to keep their experiments going and so they sell Joel's car. Joel tells them that he had $40,000 in said car, which gets them so mad that they punish him with "the ANT MOVIE". At least it's not Gamera again.
Segment 1
- Joel attempts to teach Asimov's Robotic Laws to Crow and Servo. The 'Bots don't like them and try to make their own laws.
Segment 2
- The crew discuss the first thing they're going to do when they get back to Earth. The Mads plug a pizza restaurant during the break.
Segment 3
- The crew plays "I Spy", which then turns to a impromptu performance of "Wipe Out" with Joel drumming the table.
Segment 4
- Joel programs a new Robotic Law into Crow and Gypsy and has them recite it.
The Mystery Science Theater 3000 presentation of Phase IV has examples of:
- Call-Back: The first thing Crow wants to do upon getting to Earth is kill Sandy Frank for all the badly-dubbed Japanese movies he made (among them the string of Gamera films that MST3K ran). To be fair, that's a given.
- Product Placement: During the initial airing, a commercial for Pizza 'N' Pasta (a local Minneapolis chain and MST3K sponsor) aired with Trace and Josh in-character as the Mads.
- Three Laws-Compliant: Debatable. The 'Bots know at least two of the laws, but they would rather mock Joel with their own laws like "Never hollow out a robot and make a fort out of him." Joel gets the last laugh by giving them a new law which locks them in a repeating loop.
