Hawkeye and B.J. refuse to shower until Charles stops playing his French horn, and Colonel Potter deals with a patient who wants to kill himself because he is now disfigured.

Attention all personnel! Captains Pierce and Hunnicutt refuse to shower because of the following tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: When the patient tries to use the surgical gas to commit suicide, Potter, finally angered by all the attempts, tries to "help" him do it. It gets so that the patient realizes how much he wants to live.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: After ending the feud between Hawkeye, B.J. and Winchester, Colonel Potter orders the entire camp confined. To the Officer's Club for as long as the whiskey holds out. He orders Hawkeye, B.J., and Winchester to pay the bar tab as punishment for letting their argument get as out of control as it did.
  • Escalating War: When just sitting in the tent without showering fails to halt Charles' playing, the move to fanning their clothes in front of the fan and eventually to trying to drown him out.
  • Loud of War: In the episode's climax, Hawkeye and B.J. resort to banging garbage cans and playing kazoos to compete with Winchester's French horn.
  • Incessant Music Madness: Charles' horn playing is this to Hawkeye and B.J. And eventually the entire camp.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: From The Sound of Music.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Even angry about the destruction of his horn, Charles tirade is quite well-spoken.
"Barbaians! You visigoths! Do you realize you have taken the last vestige of Western civilization left here, and you've run it under your pagan wheels!"
  • Take a Third Option: Rather than take sides with Winchester or Hawkeye and B.J., the camp tackles both of them, running over the former's French horn with a Jeep and forcibly bathing the latter.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Charles gets a local craftsman to repair his horn, and he does: without a mouthpiece.
