Volume 5 contains particular-to-this-volume examples of:

  • Adapted Out:
    • Once again, Greast is omitted out of the anime series due to it being a Compressed Adaptation. In the manga, while he does speaks to Ganelon in regards the final showdown between Tigre and Thenardier, he doesn't appear again with Ganelon in the final chapter.
    • Thenardier's flashback about his origins and rise as one of the cruel Duke is this in the anime series and skips to the Battle of Mereville.
  • Adaptation Expansion: In the manga's final chapter, Drekavac and Vodyanoy replace Greast for their conversation with Ganelon about their plot in forcing Tir Na Fal to descend onto the Human Realm. Interestingly enough, this conversation itself supposedly take place at the third saga.
  • Badass Army: Both the Silver Meteor Storm and Thenardier's army, especially the later ones because of the dragons.
  • Big Badass Battle Sequence: The Battle of Mereville consists of a huge battle between Thenardier's forces and the Silver Meteor Storm.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Thenardier is killed and his army has been defeated, Brune's civil war is over, and Regin becomes the rightful queen. However, Bertrand and Faron are dead, and Greast and Ganelon escape with Tina.
  • Grand Finale: The fifth and final volume of the first saga.
  • It's Personal: Tigre views his final battle against Thenardier as this in order to avenge Bertrand's death over the collapse of Saint-Groel.
  • Kryptonite Factor: The Magical Chains that Drekavac used on protecting the dragons are the War Maidens's biggest weakness.
  • No-Sell: Mila's direct attack on the dragons don't work on them because of the chains.
