Recap / J-WITCH S1 E32, "Half a Mask of Kung Fu"

Go To

When the seventh Oni Mask is bought on an online auction, the heroes are shocked to come face-to-face with a now destitute Valmont. Things only worsen when the mask breaks in half and ends up on both his face and Alchemy's.

  • Borrowed Catchphrase: As Uncle and Blunk trash Alchemy's laptop, Yan Lin expresses her annoyance with Uncle's "aiya" expression.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Alchemy gets the other half of the mask, instead of Jade.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Though able to avoid his fall from grace for longer than canonically, Valmont still ends up losing what little he had left of the Dark Hand and desperately tries to regain it with an Oni Mask.
  • It's All My Fault: While enslaved by his half of the Crabkhan mask, Valmont berates himself for ignoring his decision to stop dealing with magic and trying to regain his wealth with the demonic object.
  • I Warned You: When Valmont ends up begging the heroes to release him from the influence of the split Crab Khan mask, Irma and Caleb sarcastically rub this trope in his face.
Irma: So, you're saying you don't like the idea of sharing a body with a demon?
Caleb: It's a shame that nobody tried to warn you. Oh wait, we did!
  • Mythology Gag: After Alchemy puts the half-mask on her face, Jade mentally notes that she'd have done the same thing, which she did in canon.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Valmont reveals that the Ice Crew quit working for him since he couldn't pay them anymore.
  • Technologically Blind Elders: Lampshaded about Uncle by Irma, when he calls a laptop a "magic waffle iron".
  • Tempting Fate: When half-oni Valmont summons the half-a-Khans, Jade, Irma, and Hay Lin laugh and think they're only half a threat, even calling them half-baked. However, the half-a-Khan immediately afterwards prove to still be very dangerous and beat the three up.
