Recap / Hamster & Gretel S1E10 "Neigh, It Ain't So!"

Go To

Gretel allowed a radio station to hold a charity contest in which the winner gets to spend a day with her superhero persona, and the winner turns out to be Gretel's best friend Bailey. Kevin is worried that Gretel might get her cover blown since Bailey knows both of them too well, and is also concerned about her safety, since Gretel tends to get into dangerous situations. Gretel promises to be careful and not throw a single punch, letting Hamster do all the fighting. On the fated day, however, a supervillain with a horse body called the Neighslayer is stealing apples for his evil horse party, and kidnapping Hamster in the process, so Gretel has to find a way to bring the Neighslayer to justice without breaking any of her promises.

Tropes

  • Battle Rapping: In order to upkeep her promise with Kevin and still battle the Neighslayer, Gretel challenges him to a rap battle.
  • Cat Up a Tree: Since Gretel can't take Bailey anywhere dangerous, she opts to save a cat stuck up a tree. She gives it back to the old lady... who suddenly remembers that she doesn't have a cat, at which point the cat attacks her.
  • Converted Fanboy: To kill time while Gretel spends the day with Bailey, Fred suggests she and Kevin go watch Yuko Cheerleading Warrior Attack 7. Kevin is at first not impressed at all, but by the time Gretel is finished with the Neighslayer and brought Bailey home, he's completely sucked into it as they finish watching the first season.
  • Did Not Think This Through: After having captured Hamster, Neighslayer plans to dunk him in a vat of acid after his evil horse party wraps up by lowering the chain he's imprisoned in. Problem is, as Gretel later points out, Hamster can fly. So lowering the chain would only help free him from his imprisonment.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Gretel is revealed to dislike peppermints. Because Bailey knows she dislikes peppermints, Gretel has to pretend she loves them.
  • Kissed Keepsake: After Gretel hugs Bailey.
Bailey: Gretel just hugged me! I'll never wash this torso again.
  • Mutants: The Neighslayer. Before his mutation, Ned Slater was a track-and-field wannabe who wanted to increase his horsepower using a mixture of protein powder and animal DNA. Said animal DNA was from a horse... whose stable was placed next to river contaminated by chemical runoff from a nuclear power plant.
  • Pinky Swear: Kevin has Gretel do a Kevin and Gretel Pinky Promise, which he’s only allowed one every eighteen months, to make her promise not to fight anyone while out with Bailey.
  • Stock Animal Diet: Neighslayer steals apples for his horse party. Gretel also distracts his evil pony army with peppermints.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Being a half-horse mutation, Neighslayer also adapted a craving for peppermints.
