Nick decides there's No Kill like Overkill

One could have called that shape a woman or a boy: for it seemed neither and seemed both.

Nick and Hank investigate a con gone very, very wrong as a businessman from out of town meets a bizarre end. Monroe goes undercover as a prospective mark in order to identify a strange new Wesen.

Renard experiences alarming symptoms from his shooting months earlier, while Adalind deals with her latest complication.

This episode provides examples of:

  • The Con: A woman takes her mark back to her place, only for her angry husband to burst in waving a gun, forcing the terrified mark to hand over all his money. A pretty standard con, with the twist that the husband and wife are different forms of the same person.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Juliette needs a place to stay just as Renard needs a Hexenbiest to open a book for him.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Adalind thinks she can "get another father" for her second baby by sleeping with Viktor. Even aside from Viktor turning out to be sterile, isn't she four or five months pregnant by now?
  • Everyone Has Standards: Upon learning that the Huntha Lami Muuaji is a Wesen that can alternate between both a male and female body, Nick and co. express some hesitation about having to get Linus/Stacy into a Shapeshifter Mode Lock in order to arrest Linus. Monroe in particularly comments that he finds the idea of forcing someone into a strict gender role against their will to be of questionable ethics. They still go on with it, however, because it's the only way to stop the Huntha Lami Muuaji from committing more crimes.
  • Foreshadowing: While Linus is berating Stacy for their botched con in the Cold Open, he woges in front of a mirror and angrily asks "Are you listening to me?!" It doesn't seem like much, but given how we know that Linus and Stacy share the same body, and that the Huntha Lami Muuaji is the neutral state, the scene is clearly framed to hint at their true nature.
    • While reading up on the Huntha Lami Muuaji from an old Wesen medical textbook, Hank and Nick learn that the Wesen is believed to travel in pairs, but despite the Grimms being able to kill the male, the female partner is never found. Turns out, the male and female partner are parts of the same Wesen, and the Grimms killing the male side upon seeing him woge is why they never solved the other half of the puzzle.
    • Tying into the Plot Parallel of the episode and the overall arc of the next few episodes, the idea of suppressing the Huntha Lami Muuaji's Wesen form foreshadows the attempt to suppress Juliette's Hexenbiest powers near the end of the season.
  • Irony: Linus and Stacy ensure that any evidence leads back to Linus, leaving Stacy as the "safe" identity they can use to escape. This means the gang need to lock them into Linus' form, resulting in Stacy's "death."
  • Monster of the Week: A Huntha Lami Muuaji, a flatworm-like Wesen. Though believed by past Grimms to travel in pairs, it turns out that the Huntha Lami Muuaji is a Wesen with both a male and female human form. The Wesen form is a neutral, genderless mode for them.
  • Plot Parallel: Nick and co. stop the Huntha Lami Muuaji by concocting a way to suppress their Wesen side. The idea of suppressing a Wesen's powers will become relevant in their later attempt to stop Juliette.
  • Pregnancy Test Plot: Adalind appears after taking three pregnancy tests... all positive.
Adalind: I can't have another baby. [Beat] I don't even know where the first one is!
  • No Kill like Overkill: Some of the gang worry that they're using too much testosterone to lock the Monster of the Week into one form. Nick reasons that they'd rather have too much than too little.
  • Oh, Crap!: After an undercover plot that involved being picked up by the Monster of the Week, Monroe describes her as "pretty" in front of Rosalee. After everyone else has left, she too-casually asks, "So, how pretty was she?" Cue Monroe's panic face.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: Realising that the Huntha Lami Muuaji has both a male and a female form, the gang decide they need to arrest the male one as he's the one with a record. They do this by shooting him/her with darts loaded with testosterone while in woge form.
  • Shout-Out: Linus and Stacy are a male and female character sharing a body, similar to Ben and Glory in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Renard, when Juliette turns up on his doorstep having walked out on Nick.
Renard: Now, this can't be good.
