Out of the blue, Jouichirou challenges Soma to their 490th cooking challenge, with Fumio, Isshiki and Megumi as judges.
This episode provides examples of:
- Adaptation Expansion: Erina sleeping with her photo of Jouichirou next to her pillow.
- But Now I Must Go: Jouichirou leaves as soon as his duel with Soma ends, without even say goodbye to the residents other than Fumio.
- Cooking Duel: The 490th between Jouichirou and Soma.
- Delayed Reaction: Megumi only realizes that Soma and Jouichirou are having a cooking duel once she sat down as a judge.
- Evolving Credits: In the Opening Rising Rainbow, Megumi's vegetables are broccolis. For the Ending Sacchan no Sexy Curry, Jouichirou is walking along with Soma.
- I Resemble That Remark!: When Megumi asked Soma if he has ever won against his father, Soma says he doesn't remember, only for Jouichirou to retort that he has lost 500 times. Soma immediately corrects him and says it's still the 489th time he has lost.Jouichirou: So you DO remember!
- Impossibly Delicious Food:
- Soma's Apple Rissoto gave Megumi the sensation of being awaken by a gentle kiss from an Apple Prince, while Fumio and Satoshi felt the harmony of the dark and the light when black pepper was added.
- Even thought it looked like a heavy dish to start the morning, Jouichirou's ramen was rich and light at the same time, as it was an entirely vegan dish.
- Like Father, Like Son: As soon as Jouichirou won, both father and son start to write down the results.
- Pragmatic Adaptation: Soma and Jouichirou's duel was changed to happen before the Karaage Wars miniarc and the Fall Classic announcement, so it would fit better with Erina and Gin suddenly remembering Jouichirou. In this version, Megumi was awake all night because she kept thinking about the Training camp, while in the manga version, she was stressing out because of the upcoming Fall Classic. Also, Soma decides to return home because Jouichirou left him the message to do so, while in the manga he did because most of the dorm was going home for the holidays.
- Visual Pun: Since Jouichirou's ramen made people feel rejuvenated, Megumi and Isshiki turned into infants... While Fumio de-evolved into an ape.Soma: That's too much!!
