Recap / First Wave S 3 E 14 Legacy

Go To

Nobles gather on Midsummer's eve,
When the Raven grassps the curse of legacy.
Look to the traitor's haven,
As the Beast prepares for apocalypse.
Quatrain 11, Century 9

Jordan is invited to her late fathers company foundation ball, where she is taken captive by the GUA. Foster meanwhile covertly seeks information and finds links to the GUA and Jordan's Father.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: The "traitor" alluded to in the prophecy is Davis, Jordan's ex-fiancé, not her father.
  • Black-Tie Infiltration: Well, they are infiltrating a ball. Cade initially goes in via a window, but after Jordan doesn't make the rendevous, he tuxes up and goes looking for her.
  • Cruel to Be Kind: Played with. Jordan feels awful for restoring Cade's bad memories, because he seems happy, and she knows she's about to make him remember some truly terrible things. But it's not as if she can just leave him believing he still has a good job and a loving wife waiting back home.
  • Dead Man Writing: Jordan's father left her a video message. It appears to just show them together, but Jordan's necklace unlocks the real message, a warning about the Gua invasion.
  • Electric Torture: The memory wiping device appears to work like this. Going by the screaming, it's certainly not pleasant.
  • False Friend: Jordan's college friend Sabrina is a Gua agent.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Jordan's bad memories are erased or altered, resulting in her forgetting the Gua, Raven Nation and Cade. When her memories are restored, Cade's are accidentally wiped, resulting in an ineffectual, scared Cade.
  • Right Hand Vs Left Hand: Seems to have dogged the Gua's dealings with the Radcliffe family. They were seeking a merger so they could use the Radcliffe Foundation's resources as a landing pad for the invasion, but also killed them off before they could complete the merger. Possibly justified if they realised Jordan's father was compiling information about them; they knew he wouldn't sign the papers, and thought they'd have more luck with Jordan. Especially after tampering with her memories.
  • Runaway Bride: Jordan broke up with her fiancé shortly before the wedding, in reaction to her family's murders.
  • Saying Too Much: "Such a hero, 117." And Gua agent Tara Burton accidentally tips off Amnesiac!Cade that Jordan is telling the truth.
  • Strapped to an Operating Table: Jordan appears this way in the Cold Open as she's subjected to the memory wipe. Although apparently just falling on it works too.
  • Title Drop: When Cade finds a video message for Jordan from her father, part of it is a home video of him giving her a necklace with the family logo on it. Turns out that necklace unlocks the real message.
Radcliffe Sr.: With this around your neck, you will always have a legacy at your grasp."
  • Too Dumb to Live: Cade, minus his bad memories, is an idiot. He pretty much homes in on the worst person he can find (a Gua agent) for help against the crazy woman (Jordan) who thinks aliens are real.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Jordan's ex Andrew truly seems to believe that erasing Jordan's bad memories is the right thing for her.
  • Wham Shot: Cade finds cabinets full of files in a Secret Room owned by Jordan's father. One of these files - which must have been made before Hannah was killed - is about Cade.
