He found that no hit-and-runs had been reported and he assumed he had hit an animal but was never certain. The incident is what led Jubal to go to Alcoholics Anonymous. Even though Jubal is now sober and things have worked out with his ex-wife and kids, his uncertainty over what or who he may have killed while drunk continues to haunt him.
