Recap / Empath: The Luckiest Smurf - Hefty, The Luckiest Smurf

Go To

The first of the two Valentines Day Episodes for the series. Traveler and Empath both look into an alternate timeline where Empath returns to Psychelia and Smurfette ends up falling in love with and marrying Hefty.

This story contains the following tropes:

  • Action Girl: Smurfette becomes one, up to the point where she and Hefty marry in this timeline.
  • Babies Ever After: The ending of the alternate timeline story points to this potentially happening, as Smurfette gives birth to Hefty's first child.
  • Freudian Slip: Hefty says to Smurfette at one point, "You're smurfing out to be a pretty girl fighter… I mean a pretty good fighter, Smurfette."
  • Give Away the Bride: Brainy plays the role in the Imaginarium wedding scenario, while Willpower does it in the alternate timeline scenario.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Empath, when as the new Psyche Master he discovers that Hefty is not only married to Smurfette, but Smurfette is also carrying Hefty's child.
  • Knitting Pregnancy Announcement: As with "Papa Smurf & Mama Smurfette", Hefty sees Smurfette with a pair of knitting needles and some baby booties and assumes that she's knitting them for Baby Smurf, until he realizes that she isn't from her reaction. However, the knitting of booties isn't used here to announce a pregnancy, but to signal to Hefty that she wants to have a child with him. He gladly obliges by picking her up and taking her away from the kitchen to be alone with her.
  • Mate or Die: Empath after his return to Psychelia has a problem controlling his hormones, and the Psyches realize that if he doesn't have a way to release his sexual desires, he could die. A female Psyche is then chosen to mate with Empath in order to provide for him a release.
  • Point of Divergence: Where this alternate timeline diverges from the main timeline is what happens at Empath's 151st birthday at the beginning of "The Exile Of Psychelia". Whereas in the main timeline, Empath's birthday party goes on without any intrusion or incident, this alternate timeline has the Psyches crashing it to inform Empath that he must now return to Psychelia or they will take him by force.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: Smurfette signals to Hefty her desire for a child. Hefty picks her up and takes her away from the kitchen to be alone with her. Cut to scene where Hefty is abducted by the Psyches and Smurfette, Duncan McSmurf, and Tuffy go to Psychelia to confront the Psyche Master, where Smurfette discovers she is pregnant with Hefty's child.
  • Sham Wedding: Smurfette's wedding to Hefty in the beginning of the story was actually an Imaginarium fantasy setting where Smurfette was marrying a fantasy bridegroom.
  • Standard Female Grab Area: Hefty in the alternate timeline when he sees Smurfette working out grabs her by the arm to get her attention. Smurfette responds with a roundhouse kick that knocks Hefty on his butt.
  • Time Skip: Like with "Papa Smurf & Mama Smurfette", Traveler skips through various parts of Hefty's, Smurfette's, and Empath's lives to see how they all turn out.
  • Time Stands Still: Empath experiences this effect when he stands outside of time with Traveler, going to different points along the alternate timeline in Hefty's future.
  • Wanted a Son Instead: Hefty was disappointed that the child he fathered with Smurfette was a daughter instead of a son.
