Recap / Due South S 1 E 13 An Eye For An Eye

Go To

A mugger is targeting the elderly, having an uncanny ability to find them whenever they have just cashed their checks and while they are alone. When Ray is dispatched to give a presentation on personal safety (for which he is both personally unprepared for, and officially not allowed to go off the script for) Fraser ends up inspiring the elders to start their own Neighborhood Watch. Meanwhile, one of the victims has decided to take things into his own hands...

Tropes

  • Asshole Victim: The two kids on the bikes go out of their way to burn off any audience sympathy they may have before one of them catches a baseball bat to the chest. Similarly, the mugger ends up needing to be rescued by Fraser and Ray.
  • Batter Up!: As stated above, a troublemaking kid takes a baseball bat to the chest.
  • Beneath Suspicion: The reason the mugger could predict his targets so well is because he's a mailman, and thus knows when they receive a check in the mail.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Ray takes a shortcut through the park, and manages to knock down a sapling on the way.
  • Go Through Me: In order to get the Vigilante Man to stand down, Frasier stands between him and the mugger, while asking if he's really on a rightful crusade or just fed up with young troublemakers taking over "his" park.
  • Smart People Play Chess: The elderly man that becomes a Vigilante Man enjoys playing chess in the park, even during the middle of winter. In his final scene, he's playing against one of the bike kids from earlier, who complains about the cold.
  • Vigilante Man: After getting mugged, one of the old men decides to take matters into his own hands, buying a gun and cornering the mugger in the park. However, Fraser and Ray arrive before he can get revenge.
