The technical series finale of the show. Drake gets the biggest break of his life when Spin City Records agrees to broadcast his newest song in a Super Bowl commercial. Josh fails to read the contract and permits a poorly edited remixed version to be used. Meanwhile, Helen is getting married, and her grandma stays in the Parker-Nichols household. To top it all off, Mindy gets Josh's coveted role at the Premiere as assistant manager.
Episode Tropes:
- Both Sides Have a Point: Josh points out that putting fruit flies in Alan Kramer's car won't fix anything, while Drake points out that Josh is doing nothing productive to fix things.
- Didn't Think This Through: Helen hires Mindy as assistant manager. While she's an intelligent young woman with a strong work ethic, she's not told about the work dynamics, and as a result, she schedules Crazy Steve to work on a Monday when he goes berserk even by his standards.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: Drake gets a multi-record contract with Spin City Records and a #1 hit on his first major release. Josh and Mindy reconcile, Mindy graciously gives up the assistant manager job, and Josh is made the successor to the role.
- Honest Corporate Executive: Despite the notorious shadiness of the music industry, Nick Mateo is actually quite fair to Drake and fires Alan for screwing Drake over in his contract.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Drake had a valid reason to fire Josh as his manager since Josh didn't even read the contract before signing it.
- Oh, Crap!:
- Josh when Alan Krim tells Drake about the contract Josh signed which surrenders all creative control to Spin City Records.
- Drake and Josh after Alan Krim gives a phone call to them that they've broken a legally-binding contract and the company is planning to sue them for 5 million dollars and the duo can possibly go to prison for 2 years.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Nick Mateo is clearly just a level-headed guy who wants Spin City to meet its full potential by any means he can control. He respects Drake's talent and offers him a very generous opportunity. When Josh goes behind his back, he rightly points out that it was in violation of their contract and threatens legal action. When they show up to discuss manners, he firmly but civilly chews them out for how recklessly they acted. He decides not to press charges because the song was an overnight hit, and he agrees that if Josh hadn't switched the songs, they would've lost a lot of money. He then agrees to draft a new contract that benefits Drake.
