Recap / Donkey Kong Country S 1 E 8 Buried Treasure

Go To

When Donkey Kong finds a treasure map, all of Kongo Bongo gets swept up in the hunt. DK wants a present for Candy, Candy wants to buy the Barrel Factory, and K. Rool thinks the treasure is a doomsday device that will help him conquer the island!

Tropes

  • Big "NO!": K. Rool was playing a video game and very close to beating his old high school when Klump called him. Being interrupted ruined the game, causing K. Rool to let out one of these.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: After monologuing to himself about how he'll be even richer than he currently is as the richest ape on the island. Bluster steps back into frame to say "And that's rich." to the audience. Later, K. Rool gives an Aside Comment to the camera as well.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: K. Rool believes that the treasure the Kongs are looking for is an Artifact of Doom "capable of wiping out the island":
Krusha: Uh... the apes will have supreme domination over Kongo Bongo, and probably turn us into matching luggage.
    K. Rool: (to the audience) ...he does have his moments...
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: After the Worthless Treasure Twist, and then Cranky grouching about everyone crashing on his vacation spot, K. Rool goes to the bottle of banana soda, moaning, "I've had such a wretched day..." Unfortunately, Cranky earlier trapped a bunch of bees in the bottle...
  • Mythology Gag: A frustrated Diddy throws his hat to the ground and stomps on it. In the first game, this is what he does when he loses a bonus round.
    • Dixie encourages DK to show the Kremlings some "Monkey Muscle", a throwback to Donkey Kong Jr.'s catchphrase on Saturday Supercade.
  • Open Secret: DK, Diddy and Funky were alone in the banana orchards when they found the map. Little did they know that Bluster was also there, who told Candy and Dixie, who were themselves spied on by Klump who told K.Rool.
  • Privately Owned Society: Bluster plans on buying the island when he gets the treasure and making everyone work for him in his factory.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Cranky tries to have a relaxing day at the beach, but things don't go his way. The last straw is when the rest of the characters fall on him from the mineshaft. He decided to relax back home.
  • Something We Forgot: After K. Rool is dealt with, everyone goes home. Nobody however notices Bluster and Funky are missing. Both of them stuck under one of the overturned mine carts, the pair waiting for someone to say its safe to come out, however Bluster quickly wishes he wasn't trapped with Funky.
  • Treasure Hunt Episode: Nearly every character is scrambling to find the treasure first.
  • Treasure Map: Finding one starts the episode.
  • Worthless Treasure Twist: The treasure the cast is fighting over? Bananas DK hid in his youth.
Dixie: And they've been in there how long?!
