Recap / Digimon Ghost Game E64 "The Call"

Go To

Ruli and Kiyoshiro discuss about the Digital World with a group of Angoramon's acquaints and newly arrived Digimon. On their way back from a fishing trip, Hiro, Kotaro, Fukatsu and Gammamon finds themselves stuck as the boat that promised to arrive at 5 p.m. is missing, and they board into a cruiser filled with strange people instead. Turns out the incident is induced by a Dagomon who can create powerful illusions and betwitch and brainwash humans by using its Black Speech, who briefly has the people he brainwashed attack the city and send all the victims to him, turning them into merfolk. But something is horribly wrong with Dagomon, and he's just a prelude for what's to come...

  • Company Cameo: The cruiser that got attacked by Dagomon is known as "Toei 3".
  • Doomed Hometown: According to Mummymon at the end of the episode, the entire Digital World has apparently been destroyed, implied to be because of the Jet-Black Champion's awakening and wrath.
  • Hate Plague: It's implied that this Dagomon was infected by Gulus Realm Burst particles, hence explaining his unusually incredible scope of harm, his perpetual state of rage and him becoming black once its illusion is dispelled.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Near the end of the episode, Clockmon, Jellymon and Angoramon all lose their calm, with Jellymon being in Broken Tears and the other two in obvious dread despite they are all stoic Digimon who don't break down easily. It's an indicator that something is horribly wrong, and shortly thereafter Mummymon suggests that the Digital World is already destroyed and all of these Digimon are under the danger of being removed from existence.
  • Shout-Out: At one point, HoverEspimon feeds Cannoweissmon a sour plum to snap him out of Dagomon's illusions, and we're shown a 2d10 die roll that turns into a 2d100, setting all of the protagonist's perfect forms free. This is a reference to SAN/CON checks in Call of Cthulhu, where dies are rolled to determine if an action is successful.
  • Sudden Soundtrack Stop: Normally, the episodes have the standard "Hologram Ghost" opening and several generic soundtracks are used throughout no matter how tense the episode actually is. This one throws itself right into the incident and largely has no BGM bar several cacophonous tunes, which further reinforces its already-foreboding atmosphere.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The entire episode is this to "The Call of Dagomon" from Digimon Adventure 02 (even going up to the name being an abbreviation of the 02 episode's name), aside that it's made way less unambiguous for the sake of horror.
  • Wham Episode: Hiro's father finally returns from the Digital World, which is said to have been destroyed (or at least, in the brink of destruction).
