Recap / Death In Paradise Episode 2 Wicked Wedding Night

Go To

D.I. Richard Poole and D.S. Camille Bordey investigate the death of a bride on her wedding day. As they investigate, Richard searches for a decent cup of tea and finds one in a surprising place: a bar run by a French woman called Catherine who just so happens to be Camille's mother.

Tropes:

  • The Butler Did It: Camille jokes about this early on in the episode, in an unsuccessful attempt to start some banter with Poole. She's not wrong, though.
  • Locked Room Mystery: An example, though not a literal description.
  • If I Can't Have You…: The killer's motive.
  • Murder by Mistake: The bride (Lisa) was never the intended target; the hotel maid (Margaret) was. Sadly, the police don't realise this until the killer has rectified his mistake.
  • Punny Name: The best man they suspect of having a secret relationship with the bride is names Adam Fairs, or A. Fairs.
  • The Resenter: The victim's stepsister attracts suspicion for constantly scorning how beloved the now-dead bride was, even resenting her death as now she will be 'the only thing they ever talk about'.
  • Widowed at the Wedding: Invoked when a bride is killed on her honeymoon and the groom later states that he'll never love anyone as much as her. Poole eventually determines that the bride's death was actually an accident; the killer intended to kill someone else, and shot the bride because she was standing in the window and the sun behind her stopped the killer seeing her properly.
