Carbon Copy

Directed by Rob Hardy
Written by Virgil Williams
Rossi: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Charles Caleb Colton.
An UnSub is copying a former UnSub's MO, cutting the eyelids off women and exsanguinating them.

Provides examples of:

  • Call-Back: The UnSub copied is from "Magnum Opus".
  • Internal Reveal: After JJ gets a bouquet of flowers with a calling card only labeled "Zugzwang", the BAU are made aware that Diane Turner wasn't "Adam Worth", the person who said that word to Reid over the payphone, The Replicator was.
  • Irony: The UnSub wants revenge on the FBI for accusing him of murders he did not commit, so he invokes this trope by becoming a murderer. In the process, a different UnSub frames him for murders he did not commit.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Morgan tightens the handcuffs on the UnSub a bit tighter than necessary. Considering he's responsible for multiple murders and spat on his feet, it's hard to blame Morgan.
Derek Morgan: Oh, I'm sorry, is that too tight? My bad.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Detective Rizzo of the Philadelphia PD is less than friendly to the B.A.U., even vocally deriding them in front of his chief. It turns out his old partner was killed in action 5 years ago while helping the FBI on a case. He becomes a bit more friendly after Morgan saves him from being fatally shot by the UnSub.
  • Wham Shot: The team stumbles upon an UnSub's lair, filled with photos of them. Including moments from their free time and sports activities.
