Recap / Craig of the Creek S5E5 "The Cheese Stands Alone"

Go To

Craig struggles to keep the search for the last puzzle cube going when all his friends begin to lose interest.

Tropes:

  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Xavier proposing a truce to Craig to find the final puzzle cube piece together and Craig being shocked by his proposal. The episode ends before we see Craig's response.
  • Comical Overreacting: Craig is surprised J.P. has a private chat with Omar and wonders why he isn't in on it. J.P. explains it's because they talk about a show they both like that Craig always rants about because he finds the premise ridiculous. Craig proves J.P.'s point by going off on a rant about it again.
  • Commonality Connection: Craig and Wildernessa further bond over both finding a show ridiculous in concept.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Craig is haunted by the visions of his future from "Craig to the Future."
    • Craig and Wildernessa hang out in the same flower-laden pond from "Puppy Love."
  • Enemy Mine: When it's clear to Craig and Xavier that they won't be able to find the final puzzle cube piece in the creek on their own, Xavier proposes a truce to Craig to team up to find the final piece together.
  • Eye Take: Cheesesticks has this when he hears Craig's love declaration and a few more times due to how confused Craig sounds about his friendship with his friends.
  • Love Confession: Albeit in a haze of worry over his friends not hanging out with each other as much, Craig inadvertently says that he wants "to be cool together" with her.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Craig has a nightmare with the witches tormenting him with his Bad Future while Kenneth (who appears as an angelic skater) helps drop him into the abyss.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While Cheesesticks normally has his eyes closed and will open his eyes briefly when he's surprised, when Craig reveals he and Wildernessa will be together in the future, not only is Cheesesticks so surprised he opens his eyes, but he keeps them open longer than usual.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Craig sincerely yet nonetheless inadvertently confirms to Wildernessa that he wants to have a relationship with her during his rant about his friends drifting apart.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Craig is so worried about the witches' prediction he won't be with his friends anymore in the future that when he sees evidence of it coming true he acts jealous and clingy in a way that just might make that happen by pushing them away.
  • Spin-Offspring: In-universe, Kelsey and Stacks are reading a sequel book series to Ythrith of Scriggth about the conflict of her two children on opposite sides.
  • Third Wheel: Craig finds Kelsey at the library reading a book along with Stacks and attempts to wedge himself in. Kelsey tells him that they — meaning her and Stacks — want to be alone; Craig thinks she means that Kelsey wants to be alone with him and asks Stacks to leave.
  • Wham Line: Xavier asking Craig for a truce to find the final puzzle cube piece.
