Recap / Code Prime - R2: Revolution, 4 "Spark of Darkness"

Go To

Megatron calls out Optimus for a confrontation at the old Tokyo Settlement, which quickly turns into a horror show when Megatron unveils the Decepticons' latest experiments.

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: When it's brought up how Dark Energon is supposed to be the blood of Unicron, Lloyd and Rakshata both voice skepticism, with the latter even acknowledging that she's in the presence of giant shapeshifting alien robots. They quickly change their tune after seeing a Terrorcon in action.
  • Cry Laughing: Lelouch is reduced to this after the battle. Thinking he could finally get one over on Megatron, only to play into his hands once again.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Upon seeing what Megatron has done to her corpse, even Marianne was rendered speechless with horror.
  • Evil Is Petty: Just in case you needed a reminder, Megatron made the Dark Queen using Marianne's preserved corpse, and makes a point of mocking Lelouch about it after the secret is revealed.
    • It's also noted by Kallen that him continuing to call Elita by her old name of Ariel just to mock her is quite petty.
  • Logical Weakness: Megatron has to directly control the Dark Pawns and the Dark Queen, so if he's engaged in battle while controlling said machines, he'll be at a disadvantage.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The Headmasters deployed by Megatron bear no resemblance to how Headmasters work in Transformers continuity.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Witnessing Megatron mock a down-heartened Lelouch over the state of his mother's corpse was enough for Optimus to charge at his arch foe in a rage.
  • Simple Solution Won't Work: After Fixit explains how an equal or greater amount of Energon can neutralize Dark Energon, Nina suggests using the Synthetic Energon to similar effect. Ratchet is quick to veto this, arguing that Synthetic Energon's atomic structure is different enough from Energon to make it's corruption the more likely outcome.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Despite no longer being under the influence of Megatron's Dark Geass, the trauma of having to repeatedly experience his greatest fear has had a lasting effect on Lelouch as he still experiences night terrors several months after the ordeal.
  • Wham Episode: Megatron raises every destroyed vehicle and Knightmare in the ruined Tokyo Settlement as Terrorcons, as a test for his ability to control his forces with Dark Energon. This battle features the debut of the Headmaster units, the "Dark Pawns", which have the combat experience of Britannia's greatest pilots, "Refrain", AKA what's left of Mao, and the Dark Queen, which turns out to be Marianne's preserved corpse, enhanced with cybernetics and Dark Energon. And at the end of the episode, Soundwave discovers the location of the Ark by back-tracing the signal the Autobots piggybacked off Megatron's call to arms at the end of R1.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: Megatron uses Dark Energon to create a horde to undead Cybertronians in the ruins of Japan, alongside animating the various Knightmares and other machines left over from the Black Rebellion.
