Recap / Code Lyoko XANA Awakens Part 2

Go To

Part two of the prequel series, and XANA dials up the Shock and Awe to kill the newly-formed team.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: After doing their rematch, Ulrich introduces himself to Yumi and misremembers her name as "Yuri". She playfully kicks him down and corrects him as she then stands above him.
  • Backported Development: The Lyoko Warriors act much more like they do in late season 2 than they did in season one. Also it's revealed that Yumi came up with the name "Lyoko Warriors" when agreeing to help fight XANA despite the team not using that until the start of Season 3.
  • Big "YES!": Odd and Ulrich shout a "Yeah!" when Yumi says they should counter the attacks while Jeremie figures out the key to materialization.
  • Call-Forward:
    • Jim references Teddygozilla and Seeing is Believing by saying "Yeah, and a chemical teddy bear, too". The early episodes had a habit of foreshadowing the next one, with this line being meant to serves the “premiere’s” example of it.
    • Jérémie doesn't remember anything pertaining to the events of Yumi, Ulrich and Odd in Lyoko, which is a reference to Season 3's finale; Final Round, where Jérémie explicitly mentions that people who have been scanned get Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory to be immune to the "Return to the Past".
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: In the prequel, we learn that Odd didn't always have Anime Hair, but instead had a normal hairstyle and changed it to the style of his Lyoko avatar using gel.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: When Yumi is dismayed over the fact that she has only a fan for her weapon, Odd tells her to "throw it, [she'll] never know!" One chuck and badass use of the fan later, she smiles and says she'll keep it after taking out three Bloks.
  • Foregone Conclusion: While Aelita was told to go to an activated tower to see if she gets materialized onto Earth, she doesn't go to Earth when she deactivates her first tower. Later, Jérémie says in a few weeks, he'll materialize Aelita. As anyone who watched Season 1 will know, it ultimately took him over a year to succeed.
  • Friendless Background: When Ulrich tells Yumi that he has to go or his friends will wonder where he is, assuming the same for her as well. Yumi then states that she has no friends. Later, when Ulrich tries getting away from her to help fight XANA, she comments that since she is friendless, she has plenty of time on her hands.
  • Given Name Reveal: An in-universe example. Upon deactivating the tower, Aelita sees her name on the panel and remembers it. Shortly afterward, she reveals her true name to the rest of the group as well. Jeremie comments it's far better than the name Maya.
  • Impairment Shot: When Sissi opens her eyes, her vision blurs until it focuses on her father, Jim, and Yolanda.
  • Interchangeable Asian Cultures: In-universe, Yumi is again mistaken for being Chinese, this time by Sissi. It proves to be a true Berserk Button for her later on. note
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: After the return to the past, Jérémie doesn't remember anything that happened during the prequel except for his discoveries at the beginning of it. This is due to how he's the only person in the group that hasn't been virtualized into Lyoko. Ulrich, Odd and Yumi tell him everything that happened and play catch-up for him.
  • Loose Lips: Ultimately revealed to be the reason Sissi didn't end up becoming a Lyoko Warrior; she was the first one to tell the adults about the danger involved with keeping Lyoko online, making her too much of a liability.
  • Missing Mission Control: Jérémie has to evade an electricity orb XANA tries to attack with, meaning he cannot help Ulrich, Odd, Yumi and Aelita get to the red tower.
  • Missed the Call: Sissi is never virtualized into Lyoko and the return to the past at the end of the episode wipes out her memory.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Everyone except Jérémie, though when his new friends tell him about Lyoko, he immediately fixes this issue by scanning himself, after Odd's theory that scanning himself is what causes him to be immune to the time travel effects of the "Return to the Past".
  • Shock and Awe: Sissi is electrocuted from a giant ball of electricity. Later, the ball electrocutes Jeremie and Jim. However, Aelita manages to deactivate the tower before that happens.
  • The Unreveal: Jérémie scans himself into the supercomputer to gain Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory, but once again, we don't know what he looks like in his avatar form.
