Recap / Code Lyoko S 3 E 3

Go To

XANA has found a way to raise the level of the digital sea, thus flooding Lyoko. The result: our heroes' access to Sector 5 is blocked… Naturally, XANA takes advantage of the situation to launch a potentially fatal attack on the Heart of Lyoko. Jeremy had better figure out something fast! Meanwhile back at the academy, it’s Nutritional Awareness day. In order to guarantee the students well-balanced meals, Rosa Littlejohn has to create a whole new, light-and-healthy menu in the cafeteria. This new regimen hardly passes muster regarding Odd’s appetite, much less his taste… and the famished teen finds himself trying to get by on an empty stomach (an equally difficult task on Lyoko and at the academy)! A disaster in the making for such a voracious eater…

This episode contains examples of:

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: XANA possesses all the food in Kadic's cafeteria and merges it together to create a gigantic food monster.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Mr. Caggia speaks in Italian during the time he appears.
  • Breather Episode: After two episodes to establish the conflict of the season, this one goes back to the usual formula. Likewise, the attack of using food-stuffs is much less severe than the previous episode's attack where XANA possessed Yumi's entire class, requiring Yumi, Ulrich and William to team up together.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The episode's title could refer to XANA raising the level of the Digital Sea and threatening to flood all of Lyoko, or creating a giant food monster, which he uses to engulf the heroes like a flood.
  • Foreshadowing: Courtesy of Jim, he says, "Food can be your enemy." Later, XANA makes food the enemy.
  • If It Tastes Bad, It Must Be Good for You: In this episode there's a nutrition day in Kadic and Rosa is required to only cook healthy and balanced meals from that day on, much to Odd's dismay.
  • I'll Kill You!: Combined with Implied Death Threat, Odd tells Ulrich to shut up about him liking broccoli or "[he's] dead fish".
  • Ironic Death: Discussed by Odd and Ulrich, who are very aware that their empty stomach and Odds love of food is what might kill them.
  • Monster of the Aesop: Parodied as the episode initially looks like it's setting up a lesson about eating healthy foods, before everything goes off the rails when XANA possesses all the food in the cafeteria to create a literal food monster.
  • "Pop!" Goes the Human: Implied X.A.N.A attempts to pull this on Yumi and Ulrich (whom had both been devirtualized seconds earlier) by force feeding them the flooding food right before the Return to the Past is activated.
