Recap / Code Lyoko S 3 E 2: "Lyoko Minus One"

Go To

The time to elect the class representative has arrived and Jéremie is confident in his victory, but he is confronted with an unexpected competitor, Odd, that tries to achieve victory by representing the students with poor grades like himself. After possessing Yumi's whole class, Jim and Mrs. Hertz, the Lyoko-Warriors discover XANA's new plan: destroying all of Lyoko's surface sectors to block all of accesses to Sector 5, making it impossible to protect the core of Lyoko.

This episode contains examples of:

  • All Just a Dream: An inversion. Ulrich is able to bring William back to detention after getting knocked out by the possessed Mrs. Hertz. Then he wakes up and believes that it was all a nightmare.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: William dishes one to his xanafied class, but he is on the receiving end when put against the possessed Mrs. Hertz.
  • Defeating the Undefeatable: William manages to single-handedly defeat his entire Xanafied class, until the possessed Mrs. Hertz knocks him out. No Lyoko-warrior before him had managed to permanently knock out a Xanafied person on Earth.
  • Demonic Possession: This time XANA not only is able to possess Yumi's entire class, Mrs. Hertz and Jim, he also takes control of Aelita through the Scyphozoa.
  • Description Cut: Ulrich describes Jeremie's opponent as "the lamest candidate in the galaxy". Cut to Sissi's room and her coaching Herve into trying to smile.
  • Foreshadowing: Mrs. Hertz talking about how pollution endangers the forest ecosystems and how it could even make forests and all plant life disappear forever foreshadows the destruction of the Forest Sector later in that episode.
  • Hypnotize the Captive: Aelita is possessed by XANA through the Scyphozoa.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Aelita's unresponsiveness and agressiveness towards Odd immediately alerts him and Jéremie.
  • Shout-Out: The One-Kick Polykill William used against 3 of his xanafied classmates is a reference to The Matrix.
  • Throwing the Distraction: Odd throws a rock away from himself to distract the Tarantula long enough to get to Aelita. Fortunately, the Tarantula shoots the rock and not him.
  • Waking Non Sequitur: Jim has an interesting one before he gets possessed on the bus:
Jim: Go on now! Don't be scared. You gotta put her down when you are in the jungle and— (realizes he's awake)
  • Wham Line: After the Scyphozoa takes away Aelita's memory again, Odd is visibly scared that she's dead again. Then Jeremie announces that, "Aelita's alive!"
  • Wham Shot: First when the XANA-possessed Aelita is shown with the Eye of XANA in her eyes, and later when she enters Code: XANA in the Forest's Way Tower.
