Clifford the Scary Puppy
Halloween has come and Emily Elizabeth and her friends Nina and Shun get together for trick-or-treating. They’ve dressed up their animals as well and everyone has fun getting candy and treats. Evan’s apartment is the last stop before heading back for the Halloween party, and Evan suggests that they’re not experiencing all that Halloween has to offer. He decides to play some scary tricks to liven things up, but is in for a surprise of his own
Tropes:
- Bedsheet Ghost: Clifford’s Halloween costume, just like in “Halloween Bandit”. Jorge even points this out.Jorge: Clifford, weren’t you a ghost last year too?
- Crying Wolf: At first, the other kids don’t believe that Evan really saw a ghost because they think he’s just trying to scare them again.
- Halloween Episode: Emily Elizabeth and her friends are excited for some innocent Halloween fun, but Evan has some Halloween Trickery in mind.
- It's Probably Nothing: When Clifford knocks over Evan’s hockey stick and turns on his stereo, Evan, worried that it’s a ghost, nervously blames it on the wind.
- Scarily Specific Story: Evan tells a Ghost Story involving characters dressed in the exact same costumes as Emily Elizabeth, Nina, and Shun are wearing.
- Scary Shadow Fakeout: Clifford in his ghost costume walks in front of Evan’s desk lamp, and casts a spooky ghost shadow on the wall.
- A Taste of Their Own Medicine: After scaring Emily Elizabeth and her friends at their party, Evan gets a scare of his own from Clifford and learns that it’s not always so fun to be scared.
Things That Go Bump
Emily Elizabeth and her friends are out on another Halloween night attending a sleepout. Mr. Solomon reads from his newest Flo and Zo adventure, “Scaredy Cats”, in which Flo and Zo realize that scary noises they’re hearing are imaginary. Clifford however, starts hearing noises that sound just like the ones in the book and is scared by them. Norville helps him to see that they’re not so scary after all.
Tropes:
- Fright-Induced Bunkmate: Though he doesn’t admit it, Norville is too scared to go back to his nest for the night, so he sleeps on the blanket next to Clifford.
- Ghost Story: While the kids think Mr. Solomon’s “Scaredy Cats” story is fun, it terrifies poor Clifford.
- Halloween Episode: After Mr. Solomon debuts his new spooky book, the kids spend Halloween night camping outside.
- It's Probably Nothing: Clifford and Norville try to convince themselves that all the creepy noises they’re hearing have a rational explanation.
- Less Embarrassing Term: Norville wasn’t scared, he was being careful.
- Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: Mr. Solomon does this while reading his new book to the kids. Clifford gets scared when he then starts hearing these same sounds in real life.
- Slumber Party: Emily Elizabeth, Nina, Shun, and their pets all have a sleepover outside on Halloween.
