Recap / Captain Planet And The Planeteers S 2 E 4 Send In The Clones

Go To

On the island country of Mogahl, two native children, Leela and Vico, prepare to go to school, with the latter deciding to cut class. Meanwhile, Plunder builds a flamethrower factory in which Dr. Blight will provide cheap labor by way of a cloning ray she invented. They use it on Vico, who begins to multiply rapidly, threatening the island and its food supply.

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Kwame and Leela take one of the Vicos to have him guide them on where he saw the locust that had been cloned earlier. Instead of helping to locate it, Vico wanders off to find food.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Leela and Vico's parents were happy that the cloned Vicos would mean them being able to help out with the chores. Instead, they ate them out of house and home.
  • Big Eater: Those affected by the cloning ray become voracious eaters, which also triggers the cloning every time they eat. Locusts are already big eaters, which is why they multiplied in the millions in a few short hours. The Vicos also multiply in the millions due to eating out everything in sight.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Dr. Blight might be a mad scientist, but eventually, she realizes the cloning experiment has gotten out of hand and starts wishing to have it reversed.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Vico and Leela respectively. Vico would rather fool around while Leela takes her studies seriously as she aspires to be an ecologist.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The cloning ray works too well, as it multiplied the locusts and Vico rapidly.
  • Me's a Crowd: Vico and the locust multiply rapidly each time they eat something until they number in the millions.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title is a pun on "Send in the Clowns" from A Little Night Music.
