Recap / Captain N The Game Master S 2 E 4 The Trouble With Tetris

Go To

While cruising through space the N Team is pulled down by an incredible force to the world of Tetris, where everything, even the people, is made out of squares. Lana's long-lost brother, Lyle, turns out to be living on Tetris as a security guard for the Sacred Square, the artifact that pulled down the N Team and holds the entire world together. Hearing about this, Mother Brain schemes to steal the Sacred Square.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Expansion: Necessarily so, to try to get any kind of coherent setting and plot out of a puzzle game about falling shapes. In the Captain N-verse, Tetris becomes a world where everything, even the people, are made of squares. The only time the famous shapes appear are when Mother Brain steals the MacGuffin keeping everything together, making it start to fall apart.
  • I Choose to Stay: Instead of going home with his sister and joining the N Team (let alone assume the throne like he'd announced), Lyle decides to stay and be Tetris's resident hero.
  • Cosmic Keystone: The Sacred Square, that lets an unscrupulous wielder literally reshape the world on a whim.
  • Costume-Test Montage: Lana's brother Lyle wants to prove he has what it takes to be a prince. This kicks off a Training Montage, part of which is dedicated to a costume test montage. An additional hurdle that is unique to this scenario, since they are on the world of Tetris, all the clothing is designed to fit people who are literally made of blocks. Kid Icarus is able to remedy this with an arrow with a sewing needle for the tip.
  • Training Montage: Lyle getting a better outfit and some combat training to try to improve his confidence.
