Recap / Burn Notice S 3 E 15 Good Intentions

Go To

Gilroy ferries Michael around Miami, picking up the tools for his heist. The client of the week is a serious and paranoid kidnapper with whom Fiona develops a sense of solidarity with over his reasons.

  • The Bus Came Back: Mike's old FBI tail returns to be douchebags.
  • Call-Back: We learned Fi used to have a sister back in the mid-season finale. Now we learn a great deal more.
  • Cliffhanger: On the run from the cops, Michael discovers the mystery man on the plane has betrayed Gilroy and is coming after him next.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Gabriel used to be a doctor. A company was dumping chemicals into the water table. Lots of children died on his watch. Including his daughter.
  • Eviler than Thou: Gilroy has been a nasty piece of work throughout his appearances, but he is quickly subdued by Simon and left to die.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: While greeting the plane's mystery passenger, Gilroy tells Michael on the phone that the guy is so looking forward to meeting him. It turns out that Simon has plans for Michael specifically.
  • Friendship Moment: Gruffy as he is about it, Sam puts a bug in Fiona's phone so he can keep up with her while she's with Coleman.
  • From Bad to Worse: After explaining to Michael what Simon did after getting off the plane, Gilroy points out being attached to a bomb about to go off.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: As obnoxious as they are about it, Harris and Lane are right that Michael has failed to provide them with any information or proof of anything relating to this Gilroy business (e.g. Gilroy even being in the country, the highly secretive plane that no official sources have any record of, the hiding place of the .50 caliber machine gun) that would justify law enforcement getting involved.
  • Jurisdiction Friction: While trying to get their help, Michael suggests Lane and Harris simply pass the buck with a tip to the CIA. They're uninterested, as that would mean having to put up with "territorial jackasses" more than they ever wanted to.
  • The Klan: Who Gilroy sends Michael in to buy a gun from.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: The FBI guys are about as helpful as tits on a bull.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Between Michael getting in a car with Gilroy and Fiona going into Gabriel's house, Sam is really feeling this.
Sam: I really need some new friends.
  • Travelling at the Speed of Plot: Michael gets done with his counterfeiting job just as Gabriel's goons arrive.
  • Tyrannical Homeowners' Association: Sam buys time for Fiona to infiltrate the home office of the villain by pretending to be an inspector from the HOA: he first bugs the guy about not mowing his lawn often enough, then pretends to have found crabgrass to buy her the time needed to get out.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Gabriel kidnapped an employee of the company that killed his daughter in an attempt to force them to stop what they're doing, with the threat being that he'll kill the man if they don't. The man has a child, so the team are even more determined to stop Gabriel.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sam over Michael getting into the car with Gilroy at the start of the episode.
