Recap / Blindspot S1E23 "Why Await Life's End"

Go To

  • Batman Gambit: Oscar finally explains why the organization they work for placed Jane with the FBI; the clues on her body were, in part, a way of giving Weller a series of victories so that when Mayfair was taken down he'd be tagged as her obvious replacement, while Jane would be in a position to influence him as she'd still be considered Taylor Shaw. The gambit fails due to some unanticipated actions by Patterson, Weller, and Jane herself.
  • Battle Amongst the Flames: Jane's final battle with Oscar is this when the barn they're in is set on fire.
  • Epic Fail: Oscar's plan to give Jane amnesia again and start over was doomed before he could carry it out: Weller had already found out she wasn't Taylor Shaw.
  • The Faceless: Jane has a brief memory of Shepherd giving her water, but the figure is extremely out of focus so it's barely even human-shaped, let alone recognisable.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Oscar threatens to mindwipe Jane again as part of Phase 2.
  • The Reveal: Oscar reveals that Jane Doe was never Taylor Shaw to begin with. Even Kurt finds Taylor's body at the campsite he, Taylor and Sarah used to camp in.
  • Sequel Hook: Reade, Zapata and Patterson find Mayfair's USB key and find she has files for Orion, which Jane was part of, as well as Daylight. There's also someone higher up the food chain in Jane's organization named Shepherd.
  • Spanner in the Works: The plan to get Jane into the FBI as a mole comes apart because Patterson didn't simply match her DNA with the tampered evidence in the Taylor Shaw case, but also tested the isotopes in her teeth which indicated she'd been born in Africa, leaving a bit of doubt about her identity. Then Weller gets close to his estranged father as a result of "Taylor's" return—apparently exonerating him of killing her—putting Weller in a position to hear the deathbed confession of Taylor's murder. And without the memories which apparently drove Jane's original persona to hate the government, Jane herself develops far more loyalty to her teammates and Mayfair than she does to the unknown parties trying to pull her strings.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: While the organization Jane used to work for provided clues exposing corruption by members of government agencies and politicians, they're also revealed to want to tear everything down and are apparently not overly concerned with collateral damage.
