A criminal named Ragnarok escapes from the Null Void and attempts to extract the sun's energy, which would destroy the entire Solar system. As the team attempts to stop him, it's revealed he's the one who murdered Kevin's father.
  • Bait-and-Switch: At the end of the episode, Ragnarok pleads Kevin to save him "for his father". Kevin reaches him with his arm, but takes the key and leaves him to die "for his father".
  • Foreshadowing: Max warns Devin against absorbing energy to stop Ragnarok, hinting at how the following season would reveal that energy absorption has an adverse effects on Osmosians.
  • Karmic Death: Ragnarok plans steal the sun's energy, destroying it in the process. In the end, he is flung at the sun and presumably killed by it. Furthermore, he's sent to his death by the son of a man he killed trying to fulfill those plans.
  • MacGuffin: Ragnarok needs a key so he can activate his ship and continue with his plan. It's hidden inside Kevin's house.
  • Meaningful Name: Ragnarok is the name of the apocalypse in Norse mythology, the death of the gods. Ragnarok will literally cause an apocalypse if he steals the sun's energy.
  • Mr. Exposition: Devin spends the first part of Max's flashback explaining what Ragnarok was planning to do and why he was after him and Max.
  • My Name Is Inigo Montoya: Kevin does this when confronting Ragnarok. invokedWord of God stated that Kevin's mother used to read the Trope Namer to him as a kid and that he intentionally referenced the line, complete with the Prepare to Die.
  • Revenge: Kevin's main motivation for going after Ragnarok, which makes Ben and Gwen worried for him.
  • Star Killing: If Ragnarok manages to steal the sun's energy, then he would destroy it.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Ragnarok begs Kevin to save him. Kevin instead takes back the key and lets the villain get sucked into the sun.
  • Wham Line: Kevin spends the episode hunting down a villain named Ragnarok who attacked his house while his mother was out, and when Ben and Gwen ask Max for answers, their Grandpa tells of his partner who was killed by Ragnarok, leaving behind a wife and son.
Ben: But what does Kevin want with him?
Max: My partner’s name was Devin Levin. Ragnarok is the monster that murdered Kevin’s father.
