Two unlikely allies in a perilous scenario.
While Ben and a Highbreed are fighting against each other, both of them get sucked into a portal and get stranded on a desert planet. Now they have to work together in order to make it back home.- The Corruption: Reinny views the reattachment of his hand with Swampfire's plant matter as this. As such, it's why he chooses to self-exile himself so as not to infect his kind.
- Downer Ending: After spending so much time with Reinny, Ben is disappointed that not only did he fail to change his viewpoint on other beings, but he opted to remain on the desert planet as a form of self-exile. It's softened by how Ben's safely returned home, but it hardly outweighs the sad truth that he's lost the friend he made along the way.
- Foreshadowing:
- Despite Reinny claiming that the Highbreed are the superior species in the universe, he’s notably Weakened by the Light, and lacks a Healing Factor of any kind. This hints the Highbreed aren't motivated because of a sense of superiority, but something else entirely.
- At two points, Reinny proves very susceptible to Ben’s suggestions throughout the episode, hinting at his eventual Heel–Face Turn in later appearances.
- Repetitive Name: After Ben introduces himself as "Ben. Ben Tennyson". Reinny calls him "Ben-Ben Tennyson" from then on.
- Shout-Out: The desert planet Ben and Reinny are stranded on has two suns.
- Stab the Scorpion: One Commercial Break Cliffhanger has Reinny raising his claws above the unconscious Ben. The resolution has him firing darts at an insect about to eat his companion.
- Wrong Genre Savvy: One night, an incident with an insectoid monster leaves Reinny with his hand severed while trying to protect Ben. Frantic, Ben asks if he's capable of regrowing it. To this, an agonized Reinny has to spell it out for Ben that, no, he's not one of those alien species that can regenerate their limbs at a moment's notice.
