Frylock bets a case of beer that Meatward can lose more weight the right way over Carl's decision to only use the "South Bronx Paradise" candy bars, while Shake tries to insert himself into the bet.
- All for Nothing: Frylock was about to lose the bet because it turned out Meatwad's been snacking and gained 2 more pounds. The only reason he technically didn't is that Carl dies when the parasite bursts out of him before he weighs himself.
- Big Eater: Carl is an even bigger one than usual, as the "diet" he's on requires him to eat more than usual.
- Failed a Spot Check: Carl never noticed the wrapper didn't say South Bronx Paradise, but South Bronx Parasite, though it's implied he didn't bother to read it and was more interested in losing weight without exercise.
- Foreshadowing:
- Carl mentions he doesn't do a "no crabs" diet, with Frylock correcting him as "no carbs", only for Carl to state he has crabs so it doesn't apply to him. Carl not getting the difference hints that he misinterprets what the South Bronx "Paradise" diet actually reads.
- Also whenever Carl shows off the diet's name, his hand covers the last four letters, making it read "South Bronx Para-".
- Honor Before Reason: Carl sticks to his diet to win the bet, not caring when Frylock warns him the candy bars have placed insects inside him that are eating him from the inside.
- Malaproper: Carl doesn’t do “No Crabs” diets. Later turns out he being doing this with the South Bronx “Paradise.”
- No Ending: Shake dies, Carl has a parasite bursting out of him and dies in the process, and Frylock and Meatwad flee the scene in terror.
- Pyrrhic Victory: Carl ends up winning the bet, but at the cost of the parasite bursting out of him, killing him.
- Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After the parasite bursts out of Carl's body and weighs his torn open corpse, Frylock and Meatwad bail and take Carl's car.
- Too Dumb to Live: Shake tries to lose weight by vacuuming his insides at the end of the episode. It ends up reducing him to a shriveled up up and fall over.
- Vocal Dissonance: The parasite at the end of the episode is voice by an actual child (the son of Carey Means' girlfriend at the time) which clashes with the gross centipede/cockroach look it has.
- Weight Loss Horror: Thanks to the larvae eating him Carl goes from obese to borderline skeletal in days. It says a lot that his liver slipping out of his butt is the least of his worries.
- Wham Line: Frylock borrows one of Carl's South Bronx Paradise bars and makes a discovery.Frylock: Say, Carl, do you have any idea what’s in these candy bars?
Carl: No I do not.
Frylock: Well, would you like to look through this scope and just see what you’ve been eating?
Carl: No. It’s South Bronx Paradise, baby!
Frylock: It’s South Bronx Parasite!
