Recap / Albedo Erma Felna EDF Making Sound

Go To

Making Sound is an Albedo's side-story originally published in the very first issue of the second Story Arc in December 1996, albeit technically this is based in very old idea Word of God had in 1982. This is also the only side-story when Gallacci shares credits with other artists rather than himself. (Gallacci did the story, pencils and tones, while Shon Howell worked with the inks). Also, the story is notable not only because it deals with civilian characters not related in any way with any named character from the main continuity, but also for having nothing to do with military stuff of any kind, giving the readers a good glimpse about how the life is in the Albedo universe.

The main heroine is a Vulpine (fox) girl named Maria, who struggles to get a new idea for making music, an activity unusual in her setting. She gets some help from some of her friends, the Feline (cheetah) Alhan, Idol Singer fellow Vulpine Htuhak and a nameless Marsupial (kangaroo).

This side-story provides examples of the following:

  • Aerith and Bob: Maria is the only character in this story with a human-sounding name, while her two other friends with names that went from the weird-sounding (Alhan) to the incredibly alien-sounding ones (Htuhak).
  • Idol Singer: Htuhak can be considered a proto-example of this in-universe.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Both Maria and Htuhak are very good-looking by themselves, taking into account they are dressed in their music studio scenes with nothing more than their skirts. Even in the only outdoor scene of the story, Maria only wears a very short skirt, a sweater and shoes. It's also heavily implied both Vulpines girls doesn't wear underwear as well. Oddly enough, no one in-universe seems to notice them, even the males.
  • No Such Thing as Alien Pop Culture: Music and music composition are considered as newest inventions in-universe and singing is even a very unusual pursue in the Albedo universe. By Word of God, most of the music used in the setting is of the electronic kind.
  • Only One Name: We don't know Maria, Alhan and Htuhak's surnames. And Maria and Alhan's Marsupial friend doesn't even had one.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: The computer Maria is using for doing music looks a lot between a stereotypical music mixer console with a Fairlight CMI with some joysticks added on it.
