Basic Trope: Gaining weight (whether by muscle or fat) makes you taller.

  • Straight: Alice gains a lot of weight and also becomes two feet taller.
  • Exaggerated: She turns into a bulky Giant Woman.
  • Downplayed: Alice goes from a skinny 5'8" to a chubby but buff 6'1".
  • Justified:
    • What caused Alice to gain weight was magical and makes you taller as well.
    • Alice was undergoing puberty and the food she ate was high-calorie and overnutritious, ensuring she would grow as tall as her body would let her through external factors, but also causing her to become overweight.
    • Alice's height is down to a change in posture - she slouched when she was fatter but after becoming an Amazonian Beauty who is technically heavier she stands up straighter.
  • Inverted:
    • Gaining weight makes Alice shorter.
    • Losing weight makes Alice shorter.
    • Losing weight makes Alice taller.
    • Alice gets taller without gaining weight in the process.
  • Subverted: Alice appears taller but really she's wearing high heels.
  • Double Subverted: When she gains more weight, she becomes taller.
  • Parodied: Alice has become over double her original height, yet proportionally, she hasn't gained too much fat or muscle. Despite this, everyone's fixated on her weight gain and barely paying attention to her new height.
  • Zigzagged: Alice, Bob, Charlie and Diane gain weight. Alice becomes taller, Bob stays the same height, Charlie gets shorter and Diane grows but only by a centimeter.
  • Averted:
    • Nobody gains any weight.
    • People gain weight but it doesn't make them taller.
  • Enforced: Alice is a cartoon character and the animators got lazy and wanted to make her easier to draw.
  • Lampshaded: "I've gained so much weight and not only that but I've also gained height! What next?!"
  • Invoked: Alice wants to be taller, so she deliberately gains weight.
  • Exploited: Alice uses her new height to reach things she previously couldn't.
  • Defied: Alice takes measures to stay the same weight she is now to avoid getting taller.
  • Discussed: "If I gain weight, will I get taller as well?"
  • Conversed: "How did that character get so tall as well as wide? Did gaining weight give them more spine bones or something?"
  • Implied: Alice's pants before and after her weight gain are compared, and the 'after weight gain' pants are noticeably longer and wider.
  • Deconstructed: Alice's bones and joints have trouble supporting her, because she is both overweight and so tall. If she keeps growing, she may require a walking stick or a large wheelchair.
  • Reconstructed: Alice loses the weight to lessen the strain she's putting her bones and joints under, and switches to a diet that will give her body the nutrients it needs to support her new height.
  • Played for Laughs: Alice keeps awkwardly knocking things over because she's wide and bumping into doorways because she's tall.
  • Played for Drama: Alice gets ridicule and unwanted attention not just for being heavy, but for being one of the tallest women in the world.
