Basic Trope: A Naïve Newcomer who is nonetheless a fledgling badass.

  • Straight: The son of Coach Billy, Clay T. Finnigan, is a fairly green boxer. However, he absolutely makes up for it by being able to match Flash Young's skill and talent, only being outclassed due to being inexperienced.
  • Exaggerated: Clay is a bonafide Ditto Fighter without having even met the people he copied those moves from, but since he's starting out, it takes an experienced boxer to beat him.
  • Downplayed: Clay had been boxing for some time now, adding onto his fairly high skill, but he's still not in the know about how some tricks are done.
  • Justified: Clay is a natural prodigy at boxing, but since he's just starting out, he doesn't know how to counter any tricks.
  • Inverted: Cole Ramone, Clay's personal rival, had been training his ass off since he was 5, which had helped compensate for his complete lack of talent for boxing.
  • Subverted:
    • At first, Naïve Newcomer Clay seems to be really skilled, but as it turns out, he's not...
    • Clay seems to be a little confused, but he manages to counter some high level tricks...
  • Double Subverted:
    • ...Because he doesn't know how to do them yet.
    • ...Out of sheer luck.
  • Parodied: Clay has some serious Story-Breaker Power, yet can only be countered by even someone who's a tinier bit more experienced than him.
  • Zig-Zagged: Clay's skill and experience tend to fluctuate and are Depending on the Writer.
  • Averted: Clay's skill and experience are equal.
  • Enforced: "We want a badass character, but we can't have them too powerful. Plus, this one's gonna be our main protagonist, and of course they're gonna be a newbie."
  • Lampshaded: Flash remarks, "Clay, ya got a lotta potential, y'know that? Just give it time, learn all the tricks some of the older fellas might pull on ya. Yer gonna be as big a star as me one day, I'll tell ya!"
  • Invoked: Coach Billy sees a lot of potential within Clay, and he decides to enroll him into the boxing gym. He knows Clay's a fledgling, but he's a badass fledgling.
  • Exploited: Older and more experienced opponents exploit their experience by pulling tricks that Clay can't counter.
  • Defied: Clay is given training on ALL the tricks his father, a retired boxer, has seen and pulled off himself.
  • Discussed: Gymmates discuss about Clay's potential.
Flash: Clay's got potential. Nudge 'im in the right direction, an' he'd be Champion material.
Ulysses: I can't argue against that. Clay still needs to wisen up to some of the things a more experienced fighter may throw at him, however.
Alicia: I'm definitely sure Clay's gonna rise with us when we become champions. He's got everything but experience, and even then he could overcome that.
  • Conversed: ???

You're pretty Skilled, but Naive. I doubt you'd even know if there are some tabs up top that brings you to other pages.
