Basic Trope: A character asks a loved one (spouse, parent or otherwise) not to leave them.

  • Straight: Bob tearfully asks Alice not to leave him.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob bawls continuously as his he begs Alice not to leave him.
    • Bob yells this if Alice so much as turns away from him.
  • Downplayed: Bob meekly asks Alice, after their breakup, "Do you really have to go?"
  • Justified:
    • Bob is terminally ill, and is terrified of Dying Alone, and so would beg even his worst enemy for comfort at this point.
    • Bob is very lonely and needy, and he has severe abandonment issues.
  • Inverted: Bob yells at Alice to Get Out!
  • Subverted: "Please…don't go out there alone… "
    • "What? No, you've got it all wrong. I'm not going anywhere."
    • "Please don't leave me... you left your purse behind. I don't want you to forget it."
  • Double Subverted: ...don't leave me here...
    • "...because the best job offer a girl can possibly get isn't just anywhere!"
    • Bob still begs Alice not to leave him even after she remembers her purse.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig Zagged: Bob loves Alice, but he hates the fact he's in love with Alice of all people, and due to No Social Skills he alternates between screaming at her to get out and begging her not to leave, much to her confusion.
  • Averted: No-one, loved or otherwise leaves in the first place.
  • Enforced: Bob kidnaps Alice so that she physically cannot leave.
  • Lampshaded: "uh…Okay?"
  • Invoked: Bob does this on purpose in order to guilt Alice into staying.
  • Exploited: Alice uses Bob's fear of being alone to manipulate him.
  • Defied: "Trying to pull at my heartstrings, Bob? Not going to happen, not anymore. Goodbye."
  • Discussed: "This is where you beg me not to go, right?"
  • Conversed: "Yeah... *cough* Yeah, I guess it is."
