Basic Trope: Someone mistakes something for a toilet/bathroom.
- Straight: Bob is having a Potty Emergency at a store, and falsely thinks that the dressing rooms are the bathrooms.
- Exaggerated: Bob has a Running Gag of mistaking things for bathrooms/toilets.
- Downplayed:
- Bob briefly wonders if the dressing rooms could be the bathrooms, but realizes his mistake before it's too late.
- Bob uses a toilet/bathroom that's not actually meant to be used (e.g. a display toilet at a store).
- Bob had a Wrong Bathroom Incident.
- Bob mentions having mistaken the dressing room for the bathroom only once in the past, but he can generally either hold it in for a long period of time and so never needs to go to the bathroom when he's not at home, or identify what's a bathroom and what's not.
- Justified:
- Bob was having a Potty Emergency and was really desperate to find a bathroom, and so he wasn't paying attention.
- Bob is a child or an animal (if the latter, he perhaps mistook a sand box for a litter box or some newspapers for being meant to pee on), and doesn't know any better.
- Bob is The Ditz.
- Bob was Acting Out a Daydream where he's in the bathroom.
- Bob has very poor eyesight and can't see the dressing room sign.
- Inverted: Bob mistakes the bathroom for a dressing room.
- Subverted: Bob is seen doing what appears to be a Potty Dance and running into the dressing room, but then it turns out that he had a squirrel in his pants and went in there to take it out.
