Basic Trope: Two characters are shown to have gotten married in the future.

  • Straight:
    • In an episode of the show "The Adventures of Alice and Bob", an Imagine Spot set in the future shows the titular characters getting married.
    • Alice and Bob actually get to meet their future counterparts via time travel and find out they are married to each other.
    • A spin-off titled "Alice, Bob, and Charlie" is about Alice and Bob being married several years after the original show, and they now have a son named Charlie.
  • Exaggerated: Everyone in the show is seen to get married to each other in the future.
  • Downplayed: Alice and Bob are dating in the future.
  • Justified: Alice and Bob have romantic feelings for each other, or at least have the potential to even if they are not ready for a relationship right now.
  • Inverted: Alice and Bob are already married - the look at their future selves shows them being divorced instead.
  • Subverted: After finding out that they may get married in the future, Bob decides that marrying Alice all of those years later would be silly.
  • Double Subverted: Rather, they'll be getting married very soon - Bob is just getting ready to propose to Alice.
  • Parodied: The characters hate each other in the present but their future counterparts are Sickeningly Sweethearts. The present counterparts are horrified.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • There are no glimpses at the future.
    • The glimpses at the future don't hint at anyone getting married.
  • Enforced: Some fans believe that Alice and Bob would make a good couple - the writers of the show want to confirm or deny that without having to change their on-screen dynamic in the present.
  • Lampshaded: "I mean, we were such good friends."
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alice and Bob decide not to marry each other.
  • Discussed: "I'm gonna marry you?"
  • Conversed: "I wonder why some characters are shown being married to each other in the future."
  • Deconstructed: Due to the fact that they've seen the future and it's too likely that they'll get married in the future, Alice and Bob start to feel uncomfortable around each other as they both think that they're Better as Friends or Like Brother and Sister.
  • Reconstructed: Eventually, Alice and Bob peacefully make up with each other.
  • Implied: The future counterpart of Alice's sister refers to Bob as her brother-in-law.
