Basic Trope Description: A character disrespects a dead person in some way.

  • Straight: Bob dies, and Alice shits on his grave.
  • Exaggerated: Bob dies, and Alice only visits his funeral to wreck it, insults his widow, destroys the flower bouquets, and then shits on Bob's grave twice a day.
  • Downplayed: Bob dies, and Alice insults him after hearing it.
  • Justified:
    • Bob did something really nasty to Alice, and she couldn't get revenge in life.
    • Speak Ill of the Dead
    • Alice held a petty grudge against Bob and was terrified of telling him this in life.
  • Inverted: Never Speak Ill of the Dead
  • Subverted: Bob was just buried, and Alice heads towards his grave with an angry face. But she just sits down next to his grave and thinks about Bob.
  • Double Subverted: Then, she pulls down her pants and shits on his grave.
  • Enforced: The writers want to give Alice a chance for revenge to satisfy the viewers about Bob's deeds.
  • Averted: Alice has a neutral reaction to Bob's death.
  • Zigzagged: First, Alice laughs when she hears that Bob died. But she has Pathological Laughing Syndrome. Then, she comes to his Meaningful Funeral in black, but promptly destroys the flowers. But she is only a severe case of The Klutz. But after Bob is buried, she shits on his grave. And we learn that this is a respectful gesture in the culture Alice is from. But Alice made this up to get away with insulting Bob...
  • Parodied: Alice's disrespects are more acts of Poke the Poodle than anything else.
  • Invoked: Alice once heard Denise say that she would shit on Hitler's grave every day when he had a grave. And she really hates Bob...
  • Exploited: Charlie hires himself out to deliver Last Disrespects for others who are too scared of doing it themselves.
  • Defied:
    • Bob's ashes are scattered, so he doesn't have a grave.
    • Charlie sees Alice about to defile Bob's grave and yells at her for trying to disrespect the dead.
  • Lampshaded: "Alice, I know you hated him, but... shitting on his grave?"
  • Discussed: "He's dead... that means he will never be punished." "You can still punish him. Shit on his grave, to name an example."
  • Conversed: "The dead are still people. Alice should respect that."
  • Deconstructed:
    • Alice gets arrested for disturbing a dead person's rest.
    • Alice is reviled by the dead person's living family, and that family happened to be her employers.... oops!
