Basic Trope: An unlicensed radio station.
- Straight: Bob produces a Large Ham Radio show out of his garage.
- Exaggerated:
- Bob's radio station (named KBOB) has everything: a morning radio Talk Show, a music playlist, Radio Dramas, pundit talk shows, and all kinds of stuff...all produced by Bob. (Perhaps even a one-man show.)
- Bob's radio station includes syndicated content (talk shows, religious programming, Top-40 countdowns, etc.)
- Bob uses the radio to Troll everyone else.
- Bob owns an unlicensed broadcast TV network.
- Bob operates his radio show from an actual ship in international waters.
- Downplayed:
- Bob produces a Podcast or Web Video from his bedroom.
- Bob operates a ham radio, and plays music from his MP3 player for his long-distance girlfriend through it.
- Justified:
- Bob wants his voice heard, but doesn't want to go through the rigamarole of getting licensed. (Especially if Bob is anti-establishment.)
- Bob's country only has a state monopoly broadcaster which won't broadcast the kind of content Bob wants to present.
- Bob lives in a People's Republic of Tyranny and is a political dissident trying to bring down the government with a mix of news the state propaganda doesn't want to report on, intermingled with banned foreign pop songs.
- Inverted: Bob owns a licensed radio station.
- Subverted: Bob's station is licensed to operate in a given area.
- Double Subverted: He broadcasts music or other content that's not his, without paying royalties for it.
- Parodied:
- An actual Pirate ship has its own radio station.
- Nobody questions the big, honkin' radio tower poking through Bob's garage roof.
- Zig Zagged: While it may seem that Bob is failing to pay royalties, the recordings in question had their copyright expire just a few days ago.
- Averted: The only legally-questionable thing in Bob's garage is The Alleged Car.
- Enforced: ???
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: Bob thinks it might be fun to have his own radio show, and sets up a transmitter of some kind using various Noodle Implements.
- Exploited: Bob takes the opportunity to broadcast controversial content he might not be able to on regular radio, or harass the neighbors.
- Defied: Bob worries that this will get him in legal trouble, so he doesn't do it.
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
Thank you for listening to KBOB. KBOB: We don't need no stinkin' license!
