Basic Trope: Animals do not have genitalia, even when they should.

  • Straight: The animals do not have genitalia.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Despite being very detailed and realistic, they do not have genitalia.
    • Any and all reproductive organs on animals are never shown, even ones that would require a Genius Bonus to recognize as genitalia.
  • Downplayed:
    • In some cases, animals have a few lines to suggest where their genitals are, but it's not detailed.
    • Their reproductive organs aren't where they should be, but their anuses are.
  • Justified:
    • The animals are some species where their genitalia is not normally visible, such as reptiles or birds, or a made-up species.
    • They are a type of animal that really lacks genitalia in real life, such as an amphibian (except for one species of frog) or a sponge (Phylum Porifera).
    • The animals are neutered.
  • Inverted:
    • Everything but the genitals is not shown.
    • The animals have visible genitalia while humans do not.
    • An animal that doesn't ordinarily have visible genitals, or even any genitals at all (such as birds, reptiles, insects, amphibians, sea sponges, etc) is given genitalia.
  • Subverted:
    • It looks like the animals don't have genitalia, either due to shadows or obscuring angles, only for the animals to reveal their genitalia.
    • The animals are implied to have genitalia via the disgusted reactions of other characters, but it is never shown due to being obscured by shadows, clothing or camera angles.
  • Double Subverted:
    • ...only for the reveal to be interrupted, with someone complaining that this is a kids show and said genitalia should not be seen.
    • ...only for the genitalia to be almost non-existant.
    • ...but when they do get a clear view of where the genitalia is supposed to be, it just isn't there, so what were those characters complaining about?
  • Parodied: During a scene where a man tries having improper relations with a sheep, he walks around the victim a few times wondering how to proceed when it doesn't have genitalia.
  • Zig Zagged: Some animals have genitalia, some don't.
  • Averted: The animals have visible genitalia (censored or not).
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: Alice checks whether a cat is male or female, and Bob asks how on Earth she could tell.
  • Invoked: Alice doesn't want her guests to feel awkward around her dog and brushes his fur so his genitals aren't visible. (The author doesn't mention this is the reason, though.)
  • Exploited: The animals, realising their lack of genitalia, are now confident because they don't have to go to the toilet and don't have to worry about going around naked.
  • Defied: While doing the final edits to an episode of a live-action show, one of the CGI artists removes the censoring done on the animals' attributes, which doesn't go noticed until the show s already airing.
  • Discussed:
Alice: Ew, what's that on its butt?
Bob: Well, real animals have those. This isn't a cartoon.
  • Conversed: "The marketing for this show always talks about how realistically it depicts life at the farms... If you want to show the cold hard truth, you oughtta show the cold hard animal gonads while you're at it!"
  • Deconstructed: There is a gene-maiming virus that threatens to render the ecosystem unable to sustain itself.
  • Reconstructed: Even after the virus is dealt with, they don't actually show animals with genitalia.
  • Played for Laughs: A dog is seen marking its territory; even the owner is unsure of where the liquid's coming from.
