Basic Trope: A character becomes a comic relief in an adaptation of a work.

  • Straight: In the novel Troper Adventures, Bob is a relatively serious character. In the film adaptation Troper Adventures: the Movie, Bob is Fun Personified.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Bob was a very serious character in Troper Adventures, but in the movie, he's a Plucky Comic Relief.
    • All of the characters are made into comic reliefs.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob is made The Comically Serious in the film, or at least tells the occasional joke, while he was more straightforwardly serious in the original book.
    • Bob was already a comic relief in the original story, but he becomes funnier in the movie.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted:
    • Bob is introduced as a comic relief, but he is subjected to Break the Comedian, making him the more serious character he was in the original book.
    • The novel has the skilled and dedicated Dr. Bob, the movie has the well meaning but klutzy Constable Bob… they are not the same person.
  • Double Subverted: He later gets over this and gets back to telling jokes.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob sometimes fills the role of the comic relief, but occasionally can become more serious when he needs to be.
  • Averted: Bob retains the same level of seriousness in both the book and movie.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Bob decides to remain serious in the adaptation.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "Why is Bob telling jokes? I remember him being more serious in the original book!"
