Basic Trope: Characters repeat the last thing they said/did before an ad break.

  • Straight: The Adventures of Hiro features a Commercial Break Cliffhanger where Hiro and the rest of his team are about to face off against Emperor Evulz. Once they all see Evulz, Hiro says "Oh, crap..." before it cuts to commercial. The first scene after the commercial break shows Hiro saying "Oh, crap..." again.
  • Exaggerated: Hiro gives a speech before the ad break, and it's repeated in entirety afterwards.
  • Downplayed: The line is rephrased slightly, such as Hiro saying "This can't be good..." after the break, having Lance say "Oh, crap..." the second time instead, or just showing Hiro giving an Oh, Crap! expression instead of actually having him say it again.
  • Justified: Hiro is repeating himself because he can't believe what he's seeing.
  • Inverted: The commercial break cuts Hiro off mid-sentence, with no attempt to recap once the break is over.
  • Subverted: ???
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Hiro doesn't repeat himself after the ad break.
    • The Adventures of Hiro airs on a network without any ad breaks, such as on certain streaming services or on DVD.
  • Enforced: The creators of the show want to make sure that the viewers remember what happened before the ad break (especially if the last line said before the commercial break was a Wham Line or something similar), and so they have the character(s) repeat themselves.
  • Lampshaded: Lance has Medium Awareness and asks, "Yes, we know we're in trouble, why did you say that again?"
  • Invoked: ???
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: "How come Hiro tends to say the same thing twice after a commercial break on our show?"
  • Conversed: "You know how in some shows, there'll be an ad break, and once they get back to the show, the characters will just repeat themselves?"
