- The very premise: a mighty storm wipes out the entire surface world, and the only way to survive is to evacuate into the magical, unforgiving ocean.
- Blink sharks. Threatening Sharks that teleport. As much as they're Played for Laughs, certain episodes make it very clear that these creatures are not to be underestimated or trifled with.
- They're the one thing Amber actually seems to be afraid of, and she's a professional where they're concerned. And Episode 11 ends with her alone with one of the damned things in a pitch-black abyss.
- The build-up to the shark's appearance at the end of that episode is pure Paranoia Fuel. Amber is alone in almost total darkness, swimming down to reach the anomaly the team has been sent to investigate... before she realizes she isn't alone, and spots the telltale flashes of green as the shark teleports to her, and she finds herself face-to-face with one for the first time in over twenty years.
- Worse, this sequence implies the sharks are at least smart enough to plan an ambush and trap their prey in a logical manner.
- Justin gives a little more description for the sharks in Episode 12 and the result is horrifying. They have orange eyes and can camouflage so they're almost completely invisible in the darkness of the ocean. Probably the worst part, however, is their long, thin teeth that they drag their prey through in order to feast, which leads to this charming little detail:"You can always tell when they're hungry, 'cause it looks like they're smiling."
- Benefactor Orleen is a Charm Person, forcing Devo to close the door when they see each other again. Devo, understandably not liking this, promises that if Orleen does this again he'll part company with his head... and Orleen's already forced Amber and Zoox to pull their weapons and aim at Devo's head.
