  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Is Joshy a shameless con artist, or an idiot who believes his own bullshit? Or a little of both?
    • Is the Hand of Guidance a genuine Well-Intentioned Extremist who tries to be understanding of Devo but doesn't fully grasp what it is she and the parish have done wrong? Or is her "understanding" a complete act to make him doubt himself and his (righteous) anger towards her?
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Being the first NPC to be named and to be actively useful, Finneas Cawl
    • Parodied with Dr. Shaq, a oneoff NPC that is held in high praise and repeatedly brought up again by the players purely because Griffin described him
  • Paranoia Fuel: Blink sharks. Not only can they teleport and suddenly appear right in front of you, ready to feast, but they can also camouflage themselves well enough to be completely invisible in dark water... at least until they decide to teleport, but by the time you spot the telltale flashes of green, it may well be too late.
  • The Woobie: It's hard not to pity the plight of... well, the world in general in the prologue, but especially the wayward spirits of the Einarr people — especially, those who did not consent to being spirited away in order to escape the storm. Because they weren't willing or ready to go, they didn't Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence like the rest of their people, and were instead left stranded in the land of the living as ghosts. Fortunately, the people working to build Founders' Wake manage to create coral bodies for them to inhabit. Multiple souls have to share a body and become a new person formed from the old ones, so it's not a perfect solution, but at least it's a reprieve from how utterly unfair their original fate was.
