The Goosebumps SlappyWorld book where kids go on a treasure hunt, and Slappy has a diary.

Billy and Maggie McGee and their dad have recently moved to a new town, where Mr. McGee works at the town dump. While there one day, Billy and Maggie discover a suitcase containing Slappy the dummy, and accidentally revive him. However, they also find his diary, which contains a mention of something called "the gold", which they believe could be a treasure that would solve all their financial problems. Seeking out the gold, with Slappy on their trail, they soon find "the gold" is not what they expected...

This book provides examples of:

  • Adults Are Useless: Averted. Billy's dad sees Slappy right away and even pretends to be frozen to distract Slappy.
  • An Ice Person: In the Coldman house, they find a man made out of ice. He melts pretty easily though.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Slappy uses a spell to turn the kids into his obedient slaves.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Billy brings a sandwich with him as a snack when traveling to the Coldman house. He later uses it to ward off some rats.
  • Creepy Cockroach: Slappy has the power to puke out cockroaches.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: Aside from having Slappy reveals himself to the parent right away, this entry is more about a hunt for gold than your typical Slappy plot.
  • In-Universe Nickname: Goldie has the nickname of The Gold. Slappy using this makes the kids think he's talking about actual gold, when it's actually Goldie.
  • Missing Mom: Billy and Maggie's mother died, leaving them unable to afford their old home and having to move into a new one at the start of the story.
  • Mythology Gag: All the way back in the first book, Mr. Wood was locked in a suitcase to try and get rid of him. This time, the characters try to do the same to Slappy.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: This book gives Slappy the power to freeze people, as well as the cockroach power mentioned above.
  • Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: Slappy claims to be this in his diary, but it's clearly phony.
  • Secret Diary: The entire premise of the book. They find a diary Slappy has been keeping, which goes into some of his previous victims and reveals that there's some gold he is trying to find.
  • Sibling Rivalry: It's revealed that Slappy has a sister named Goldie, and they hate each other. However, Goldie is more powerful so Slappy wants some of that power.
  • Treasure Hunt Episode: The plot revolves around the kids looking for some gold that Slappy mentions in his diary. It turns out he meant his sister Goldie, who is called The Gold.
