Batman: I hate you, Joker.
The Joker: I hate you too.

Lego Batman is, among other things, a Romantic Comedy about Batman and The Joker. No, seriously.

  • The conflict starts because Batman won't admit that The Joker is his "best enemy".
The Joker: Okay, look, I-I'm fine with you fighting other people if you wanna do that, but what we have is special. So when people ask you who's your number one bad guy, you say...
    Batman: Superman.
The Joker: Are you seriously saying that there's nothing, nothing special about our relationship?!
Batman: Whoa! Let me tell you something, J-Bird. Batman doesn't do ships.
    Joker: What?
Batman: As in "relation"ships. There is no us. Batman and Joker are not a thing.
  • When The Joker turns himself in, he tells Batman he won't be able to "fight any of this anymore", while rubbing his hands down his body.
  • Harley Quinn tells The Joker that if Batman doesn't appreciate him, he needs to move on.
    • Not to mention the Phantom Zone villains root for him to move on and the Daleks even shout "He's not worth it!"
  • The Joker: "Do you realize that you have never once said the words, "I hate you, Joker"?"
  • The Joker tells Batman he refuses to stay in a "one sided relationship".
  • Batman: “You’re the reason that I get up at 4:00 in the afternoon and pump iron until my chest is positively sick. You’re the reason I’ve given up a life spent with Russian ballerinas and lady active-wear models. And if it wasn’t for you, I never would have learned how connected I am with all these people, and you. So if you help me save Gotham, you'll help me save us."
  • At the end, they tell each other how much they... "hate"... each other.
  • For most of the movie, Dick Grayson is deluded into thinking that he has two dads: Bruce Wayne and Batman.
