Hilarious In Hindsight / Pokémon Uranium

Go To

This game managed to introduce many elements and changes that would appear in Gens VII, VIII and IX:

  • One fan-made Pokémon in the game is a female-only Water/Fairy-type named Syrentide, which drew inspiration from sirens. The water type Sun and Moon starter evolves into a feminine-looking Water/Fairy type named Primarina, which also drew inspiration from sirens.
  • Both the Sun and Moon Big Bad and the Uranium Big Bad end up comatose in the post-game with no hints of recovery, though Lusamine at least wakes up enough to try and go to the festival at the end. There's also the implication that Lusamine's obsession with Ultra Beasts was born of a desire to see her husband again after he vanished during an experiment with Ultra Wormholes, not completely unlike Kellyn becoming obsessed with his Ranger work out of a desire to forget his grief over his wife's passing. And in both cases, their children paid the price (emotional abuse and control in Lusamine's case, When You Coming Home, Dad? in the Uranium Player Character's case).
  • The guy who outright says "THEY SUCK!!!" about HMs should feel vindicated, since HM moves have been demoted to regular TMs in favor of other gimmicks, and do not make an appearance in any mainline game since Gen VII (including remakes).
  • Uranium bucked the trend of your rival always getting the starter with the type advantage against yours by saddling Theo with the starter yours has the advantage against. While Black and White and X and Y had already played with the idea by giving you two rivals, each with a different starter (your To Be a Master rival still gets the one strong against yours, whereas your more carefree rival gets the one you're strong against), Sun and Moon is the first to truly avert the trend, as Hau will always have the starter weak to yours. On a similar note, during the capture tutorial in Uranium, Professor Bamb'o decides to keep the remaining starter. Guess who you later see in Sun and Moon using the starter you're weak to?
  • The Cocaran line is a line of crab-like Pokémon that are not Water-type but still learn a handful of Water-type moves. Sun and Moon introduces the Crabrawler line, which shares these similarities and is even based off of the same crab species — coconut crabs.
  • Tubjaw, a Water/Dark Pokémon known for its bite, almost seems like it could be a pseudo-counterpart of Sun and Moon's Water/Psychic Bruxish.
  • Gym Leader Tiko is a Fire-type specialist who is also a dancer and goes shirtless. Fast forward to Sun and Moon and we have Trial Captain Kiawe, another dancing shirtless Fire-type user.
  • As of 1.03, the Uranium Core is used to shift the legendary Urayne between its weaker Alpha form and its stronger Beta form.note  In Sun and Moon, you can do something similar with Zygarde once you have at least 50% of the cores and cells, using the Zygarde Cube to change it between its weaker 10% form and its stronger 50% form once it's constructed. Both legendary Pokémon also have a third form that's even stronger, though only Zygarde's is obtainable.
  • One of the original abilities this game introduced is Energizate, which turns Normal type moves into Electric type moves. Sun and Moon introduced that very ability, albeit under the name Galvanize. Doubly funny when you realize that both families of Pokémon that use these abilities are Electric/Rock.
  • Following the trend of this game's fan-made Pokémon managing to predict official ones, there's the Minicorn line, a really cute pink pony-like Pokémon based around unicorns (while also referencing My Little Pony). Come Pokémon Sword and Shield, and it got announced that the Ponyta line would be getting a Galar regional variant, with it being also based around unicorns and with a pastel rainbow-colored design that looks straight out of a MLP toyline.
  • Speaking of Minicorn and being an MLP reference, one of its evolutions, Kiricorn, is based off of kirin. Kirin officially appeared in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic in a season 8 episode, two years and change after the 1.0 release of Uranium.
  • In Uranium, there was Frosthra; Pokémon Sword and Shield would later reveal their own actual Ice/Bug Pokémon that's an ice moth named Frosmoth.
  • Similarly, Impidimp, also released in Pokémon Sword and Shield, looks like it could be a taxonomic cousin of Uranium's Devimp.
  • Uranium introduced a Pokémon form with bloated stats that is completely unobtainable by the player and serves solely as the Final Boss of the single-player mode: Gamma Urayne. Cue Sword And Shield doing exactly the same for the first time in the official games' history, with Eternamax Eternatus, a 1125 base stat total monstrosity that the player cannot use in any capacity.
  • Zephy is an Ice/Electric Fakémon that seems to be a fusion between Articuno and Plusle. Come Sword and Shield and we have Arctozolt, an Ice/Electric type that's also a fusion (although Zephy seems to have been fused naturally, whereas Arctozolt is obviously the remnants of two entirely different extinct Pokémon stitched together.)
  • Oblivicorn is a Fairy/Dark horse. Come Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC, and the official games now have a similar dark horse named Spectrier, only it's a Ghost type.
  • Instead of having an Elite Four, the Pokémon League of Uranium takes the form of a knockout tournament, with Gym Leaders being among the participants. This is the same system that would later be used by Sword and Shield. Furthermore, in both cases, the tournament was interrupted right before the final battle leading to a fight against the aforementioned Gamma Urayne and Eternamax Eternatus, respectively.
  • Vaeryn is the only Gym Leader to be fought in a Double Battle. Despite being the Dragon-type Gym Leader, only half of his Pokémon are actually Dragon type. His team also takes advantage of a weather condition (Hail). Again, in Sword and Shield, we have Raihan, who is also a Dragon-type Gym Leader fought in a Double Battle who also has only half of his team being Dragon type and has a team built around using a weather condition (in this case, Sandstorm).
  • The official Pokémon games would have a Grass-type feline as a starter in Sprigatito, which debuted in Scarlet and Violet.
  • Hazma resembles one of the spacemen from Among Us.
  • Scarlet and Violet would give Primeape and Dunsparce evolutions, something this game had done years prior. Even funnier, Dunsparce evolves into Dudunsparce by learning a specific move, just like Dunseraph.
