"Good night darling, sleep well."
  • Just the veterans' complete loyalty and relation with each other.
    • Fred saw a harsh customer calling the American's actions unnecessary and when he overheard the conversation with Homer and saw the customer getting into a fight with him, Fred was willing to lose his job to punch the customer, just so Homer wouldn't get hurt.
    • Related to the above, it's easy to miss but Homer is just listening to the customer go on his tirade against America's involvement in the war, clearly angry and disapproving but not really getting involved that much. It's not until Fred tries to step in and get the customer to go away and the customer reacts by dismissing Fred as a nobody that Homer gets angry enough to directly verbally and physically confront him.
  • Wilma's undying love for her boyfriend, Homer and her desperateness to get Homer to believe in her.
    • Homer finally getting the courage to have a real conversation with Wilma and explain why he tried to avoid her.
    • Wilma speech to Homer vowing to never leave Homer no matter what would happen.
    • The two of them getting married afterwards.
  • Nearly all of Fred and Peggy's interactions
    • Peggy coming to Fred's aid when he gets a war nightmare.
    • When Peggy meets Marie and sees Fred's unhappy relationship with her, Peggy was willing to get Fred away from Marie and marry her instead. Yes it was the wrong thing to do, but she was looking out for Fred and wanted to make sure he had a happy relationship.
  • Al coming home and being greeted by his children, and then by Millie, and Millie's reaction when she calls someone to cancel her plans:
Milly: I'm terribly sorry. (crying Tears of Joy) I mean, I'm terribly happy. You see, Al, my husband...He's home...Yes!
  • Homer's homecoming is this as well (though it also crosses into Tear Jerker territory once his family sees what's happened to him.
  • Fred's father and stepmother reading a letter of commendation for Fred's actions during a battle (in which he was apparently severely wounded and in a shot plane but still managed to get his comrades safely through the air battle). The sheer amount of pride radiating from both of them as they read is overwhelming, to the point that it drives Fred's father to tears.
  • Al knowingly going against the bank's wishes and approving a loan to allow a returning vet to buy a farm despite the man not being able to put up any collateral. Especially since it's implied he was going to reject the man's request until he happened to see Homer in the bank collecting his pension.
  • The fact that both Fred and Al, after a brief moment of shock from each, on the whole do treat Homer like any other person despite his disability right from the start.
  • The three's reunion on their first night back, in particular after Homer's humiliating dropping a glass due to his nervousness with his family seeing his hooks, in this more comfortable situation he's able to expertly use them to take a drink.
